By this, I mean whose stature benefited the most from a fight he lost? Some possible contenders are Frazier vs Ali III, Leonard vs Duran 1, and Taylor vs Chavez 1.

    Hagler vs Leonard
    La Motta vs Robinson
    Maidana vs Khan

Are a few that spring to mind

Vitali klitschko, comes to mind at first. I also think foreman when he lost to ali and ray leonard vs duran.

    Jmm loss to PAC.

Because after that he took on no makers, struggled and yet he is still highly rated.

He actually performed at par with mignaggi against Juan Diaz and somewhat have to pick himself up against Katsidis yet people are still impressed with him.

A fighter who faces an overmatched opponent should perform spectacularly. Ex gayweather vs. Gatti

Vitali's war with Lewis. Gave him legitimacy in a weak era.

Leaving "the most" out of the equation:

    Bowe/Holyfield 1
Toney/Jones(I guess this counts, Toney was at the top and lost to a great, prime fighter which many expected him to lose)
Hopkins/Jones 1(Jones is the only man to clearly beat him)
    Ezzard Charles/Marciano 1
    Shavers/Holmes 2 or Ali
    Barrera/Marquez
    Barrera/Morales 1 & 2
    Morales/Pacquiao 1
    Tarver/Jones 1
    Walcott/Louis 1
    Castillo/Mayweather 1

Not including robberies like Louis-Walcott 1:

    Louis-Conn 1
Hagler-Duran (although it wasn't nearly as close as the judges had it)
    Pacquiao-Marquez 2
    Sanchez-Nelson
    Chavez-Laporte

i think tiberi's controversial loss to toney defined how a good of a fighter he was that night.

carl williams gained a huge amount of respect with his loss against holmes.

troy dorsey showed world class boxing caliber against kevin kelly in his loss.

    great call with thread stealer,

durans loss to hagler is about as legacy enhancing famous as any of his wins in his 4 decade career.
