At this moment in time who's resume ranks higher, Kessler or Ottke's?

In your opinion who are the top 5 SMW's EVER, in order, achievement wise, and separately H2H wise?

OK I've mad two crude lists, and I'm sure they are very open to be shot to peices... just two quick lists to get the ball rolling...

H2H wise for the time being I have...

    1 Roy Jones
    2 Toney
    3 Calzaghe
    4 Mccalum
    5 Eubank

    Benn, Kessler, knocking around...

Achievement wise , at the weight alone, for the time being I have...

    1 Calzaghe
    2 Benn
    3 Ottke
    4 Eubank
    5 Kessler

There must be some other Super middle names out there which I haven't thought about, who could make the top five in either list - or at least make a case.

    How about you?

Ottke currently, although Kessler can easily surpass him with a 168 fight vs. Hopkins or a unification vs. Bute or the Froch-Taylor winner. Sven was pretty damn good in his days and had a very decent run in a mediocre-weak SMW divison. The Reid fight was the obvious controversial one, other than that, the many close ones he had could've gone either way, but Sven was always the more effective fighter.

Someone like Steve Collins or Frankie Liles could be worth consideration for one of the lists, although I'm not an expert on the division.

As of now, Ottke has a better resume than Kessler.

Ottke, though I daresay Kessler will surpass him.

I agree both perhaps have a case.

Ottke has an excellent resume in truth and was a good fighter, criminally underrated.

However, his lack of KO's counts against him and the odd dodgy referee and split decision in his favour.

Difference is, Kesslers resume will be remembered...Ottke's will be ignored.

Did Mike Mcallum fight at SMW ? Thought he finished at Middle .

Can't give Ottke anything, awful to watch, needed a robbery to beat the mighty Robin Reid. **** Him.

Ottke has the stronger resume on paper, however, Kessler is the better fighter and will surpass him by the time he's finished if he stays at 168. Kessler has also won his fights clearly, unlike Ottke who has 4 or 5 "question mark" fights.

When you have fights in which the "odd dodgy referee" is bad to the point where he warns your opponent for punching you, your resume better be damn near flawless aside from that and as we all know, this is not the case with Ottke. The Robin Reid fight was downright criminal and as much as I've tried to avoid criticizing German boxing over the years, I can't seem to put that fight out of my head. I'd be foolish to argue that Kessler has the better resume at this point but he's not that far off. Ottke was an underrated fighter but at the same time, his title reign was so spotty that it will always be at the forefront when arguing his place in history.

Kessler hasn't shown me anything yet to convince me he'd beat a prime Benn or Eubank. Over-rating him somewhat i reckon .

On paper, Ottke clearly has the better resume. However, if you count Ottke's robbery wins as losses instead, then Kessler has the better resume.
