i hate that the biggest fights are always saturday nights. i gotta choose between being social or keeping up with the sport. I would love sunday afternoons (during nfl offseason of course) what do you guys think?
Nah, it belongs on Saturday night. Problem is most of us don't have enough friends that like boxing to do both.
problems with fights being on saturday nights is that i get to drunk to know whats going on. especially if theyre in the u.s. and are showed over here at like 4 in the morning When i watched the Hatton-Mayweather fight i thought hatton was doing well and was shocked he got k.o'd. i was obviously really drunk by then....
Thanks to the time difference, we get all the fights from America on a Sunday arvo and not to brag but its great! lol The absolute best time IMO a great way to cap off the weekend with a good fight.
best of both worlds... hit up a nice bar aroudn your area with some freinds... have a bite to eat or some beer during the fight then hit up some clubs... or another bar or whatever it is that you do
problem with that is that there are no bars that show boxing anymore, at least not in chicago anyway. they've all switched over to mma and ufc. I called at least 10 different "sports" bars looking for the margarito cotto match, and not one was showing it, even with all that hype (for boxing standards anyway) I think the ppv fee is too ridiculously large for any bar to realistically make a profit.
most people probably wont remember this, but foreman vs morrison in 1994 was on ppv on a monday night...that was kind of cool
You can only be social on Saturday night? :? Myself, I'm pretty damn misanthropic, so I wouldn't go out anyway. But seriously, unless you just turned 21 and the mystique of going out "clubbing" or whatever hasn't worn off yet, you really should be able to make the very easy and painless decision as a boxing fan to devote yourself to fight night. If you desperately need to get drunk and dance with strangers, I've heard rumors that clubs are open the other six days of the week as well! As far as live music goes, that's a more legit thing to bemoan missing out on, but around here most shows are on Friday nights so there's no conflict really (I can justify missing/taping ESPN FNF and Shobox for an appealing enough band). Don't know about elsewhere.
sucks because its the first weekend for the big fights and i'm always out of town. thank god for fights like last nights and this upcoming weekend.
Well as a brit it suits me fine.I can go out and return to watch the big US fights in the early hours of Sunday.Great going out for beer knowing when you return there will soon be a fight on. Im a night person anyway and dont have to be up early on Sunday, plus the Boxing wont clash with anything at 3 in the morning. Early sunday morning is great for me.
