frickin beautiful. chavez defense is so subtle, not flashy. looks almost lazy as he shaves with your gloves.

Nothing was really mentioned until after the Kessler fight.

He slips some shots but he is not a fighter I would consider hard to hit. His best defence is putting his gumshield in lol

Chavez' head movement is superior to Canelo's, its not even close
You dont have to look more than Chavez' fights with Taylor and Whitaker, watch those particular fights only paying attention to defense on the part of Chavez and you will gain an appreciation to how good he was on defense.
Whats even more impressive about Chavez' defense is how aggressive he was on offense, usually fighters moving foward and attempting to cut the ring off as much as Chavez did suffer defensively, but Chavez could move foward getting making an offensive move and still able to slip punches.
Canelo is good, but Chavez was on another level.

Canelo has good head movement but in case you didn't realise he still gets caught a lot. His head movement is nice and flashy because he rolls with shots in exaggerated fashion but it's not nearly as effective as he fools you into thinking. Same goes for his punching. He often hits the guard with his hugely wound up shots but he proper screams and makes as loud a noise as possible with his shots to fool the judges.

Chavez had good weaves, but Canelo is just a tad bit better as far as head movement goes.

Canelo is extremely difficult to hit with a clean power punch. His opponents mostly land him jabs and their punch accuracy is poor.

Getting hit with jabs constantly isn't exactly an indicator of having the best head movement ever, is it? It's probably the first punch one learns to slip and counter. GGG didn't have much problems landing power punches either. In fact there were a good few who had plenty of success landing on him. Kovalev, Plant and Saunders landed a decent amount on him anyway. Canelo's head movement was nigh on nonexistent against Kovalev, he was probably afraid of gassing out while doing it which tends to happen to him when he focuses on it too much.

Not saying there wasn't butting in previous fights. Just that nobody complained until the first Kovalev fight. Ward's a rough fighter. That's his style. I'm just not buying into the narrative that he uses his head intentionally.
Just like I don't buy into he needed to fight at home, when roughly only 25% of his fights where in Oakland.

The amount of head he gets from Reynoso and Sulaiman is impressive indeed
