    Anyone?

What was your opinion of that fight? What were your thoughts on Lacy v Calzaghe in the build-up to Jeff taking on Joe?

What do you think the Sheika fight proved? Was it a good performance by Lacy where he overcame adversity to get the win, or just an off-night on Jeff's part being pushed by someone of Sheika's calibre, or did it suggest to you that he was not what he was being built up to be?

    :bbb

All opinions welcome from people who have actually seen that fight!

I thought the fight was a draw. It was that fight that convinced me that Lacy was not the prospect that people were making him out to be. He has poor defense and he is hit way too easily, and those facts were painfully proven in the Calzaghe fight.

The Sheika fight proved that Lacy was just hype.

that if sheika had some more pop in his punches he could have taken out lacy cuz he was hitting him pretty often but lacy has a good chin..still i chalked it off as lacy having an off night

I remember the Sheika fight being one of my arguments to why Joe was gonna win, but the the Lacy fans (I say fans i mean bandwagon jumpers) threw their two respective Robin Ried fights back at me...

Fact is Joe surprised everybody even the guys who thought he would win.

Why even use that fight as an example? Jeff's fight with Williams solidified my thoughts on his future, Jeff would need to prove otherwise if would even be considered as a possible Calz spolier. Jeff was the poster boy of over hype at the time him and jermaine where two up and coming american stars...I liked jermaine and my buddies loved Jeff....still a good win for Joe though it changed nothing in terms of evaulating just how good he was compared to boxings atg's.

I thought Lacy deserved the decision over Shieka. On one hand I thought Lacy should have beaten him more decisively but it was Lacy's 18th pro fight and Shieka was a tough customer so I felt he deserved some slack.

Coming into the Calzaghe fight I thought Lacy was a bit overated. He had the look, record, and attitude of a fighter on the verge of stardom but it seemed not quite the talent to match, a good fighter but not the star some though he would be. I still thought he'd beat Calzaghe though. I thought Calzaghe was on the same level as Lacy and that he had already peaked and Lacy was catching him at the right moment. Turned out I was right about Lacy but wrong about his fight with Calzaghe and about Calzaghe in general.

Its true that lacy struggled but i think he just about won it. Dont forget Shika beat Johnson and when he really turned up he was a decent fighter. Scott Pemberton beat Shika twice, the 2nd time gave a him a real tough time and then stopped him in the 10th. Lacy then obliterated Pemberton, which was after his Sheika fight.Having said that, Pemberton did have a bit of a history for having a poor chin, still, nobody had ever got him out of there so destructively and quickly. Robin reid had never been stopped before either (i know he retired in his corner but it was basically a stoppage) and was coming off some nice wins over Ottke(i consider it a Reid win) and brian Magee. So it does show weakensses in boxing ability Lacy had over a sustained time, but his power and agressiveness was what really hyped him and he still proved he had that in abundance up to the Calzaghe fight. I give joe full credit to this day.

I saw it and was hugely unimpressed with Lacy.

Which is why I picked Calzaghe to win on points in his homeland.

Good Performance on Omars part bad performance on Jeffs part I acutally think that Omar exposed him notice how he fired combonations and kept turning Jeffy, thats exactly what has gone down every time Jeff has lost that is how you beat him do not let him set his feet.
