He's done as a top 5 guy at WW but he can still make a good gate keeper at this point. I don't think he can make 140.

Needs to go back to boxing. Tuff guy with skill he doesn't need to be banging with guys on the ropes. I thought he should have held on after he landed that good uppercut rather then letting the guy continue to throw.. Needs to get his southpaw jab going and box guys like he did with katsides

Hes been in non stop wars (exception of Floyd fight, who still put the hands on Robert) for the past 3 years.

    He is done!

One bad performance shouldn't define him, give him 2 more fights, he's probably gatekeeper status now. Garcia or Brook will be down the line.

I agree with those of you saying that 2 losses with knockdowns does not mean he should retire, im not saying that.

What im saying is, this is a dude with solid whisker. Solid whiskers that are going to be the end of him.

If he doesn't go back to boxing effectively, he is going to get hurt. I have never considered him a top 5 welter, but I have always held him in high regard for his heart and grit as a fighter.

He is not like other boxers, he cannot rely on his defence and boxing ability to make easy fights for himself. He loves to brawl. He loves making fights tough. As of late it doesn't seem that he can rely on his gritty style to get past fighters, as the weekend showed. That dude wasn't a heavy puncher and he should have cruised by. A puncher like Thurman in the weekend would have had Guerrero out of there. If that was the case, I believe more would agree with me. As we have seen, the dude can take more than a punch.

The way I see it, go back to boxing, if you cant do that, hang them up. He is going to continue to get hurt otherwise, as his heart & chin will continue to keep him fighting heavy handed fighters but the brain and body may not.

    Just my 2 cents.

He has a lot to offer but just not at the level he is used to, and for me that is the time to call it a day.

He was a beast in lower weights and enjoyed watching him fight. He's fighting too high.

Just needs to get motivated and probably take another soft touch before stepping back up. He's fine. Would look to get his next big fight against a 140 on the way up or a smaller framed 147 fighter if not an aged former titlist as well (here's looking at you, Zab Judah), if I were his matchmaker.

I don't get why it's impossible for fans to give overlooked opponents/underdogs credit and also refuse to give the bigger name credit for overcoming the unexpected tough challenge. Is it because underdogs aren't pretty enough on paper and aren't hyped enough to receive any credit?. I know the media's influence is too powerful, especially in today's era of social media, but try to allow logic to be your primary source of judgment.

    What?

Relax man. I did not make this thread to discredit Martinez or the performance he put on. Guerrero fought a fight he didnt need to fight, he looked lack lustre against a heavy underdog. The reason why he performed poorly against the opponent was just as much his undoing as it was the challengers performance, I can grant that.

But that is not what this thread is about. It is about whether or not people think that Guerrero should retire.

Personally, I think he should or as many have stated, he should drop down. As his style is no longer working in the heavier weight and because of his gritty style, he is taking far too much punishment from top welters let alone someone a 'tune up' fighter like Martinez.

I don't understand Guerrero anymore
He was the GHOST because he used his range....Now he wants to mix it up all on the inside which is not his style:patsch

He just needs to go back to using mid to long range and box. If that KD had occurred 50 seconds prior to the round ending he would have been KTFO:dead:deal
