I believe in ressistance work, but not done with weights.Strong core legs and shoulders with Boxing skill, will help the cns adapt with the correct input. Weights dont give the input that relates to correct feel and technique. There are routines out and about, that can be done without going near a bag or ring. Routines that give better nueromuscular response to technique, Than practiseing technique, giving the nuerons, better adaptability and response memory before technique is practiced. Weights for me is taking a step back in time, theyve been about for years, nothing new there. The body works all or nothing, it starts with whats between the ears, use it wisely :good
I'm not defending nor denying his statement, but Lee wasn't exactly a good boxer, not very fast either. Perhaps in meaningless tricks, but not when actually punching. [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BluUhcEvPtI[/ame]
Freddie Roach doesn't use weights with his fighters unless it's for hypertrophy to move up in weight. I guess Freddie Roach is naive as well when it comes to boxing training.
That is when you said limited body movements. tell that to Bruce Lee. ruce was actually extremely quick.
atsch the majority of people in this thread who state they do sport specific weight training for boxing?
i do plenty of sparring with south paws, i practise my footwork and i do lots of bag work and shadow boxing. all i know is since i have been doing conditioning my legs don't gas anymore and i feel stronger then my opponents fighting in close when using our body weight. These are the advantages i have on top of my boxing skill. i never once stated weights was better then sparring, obviously skill comes first, but i never sacrifice a boxing session for a weight session. I always do my conditioning class after boxing. But for strength weights is better then hitting a heavy bag i never said weighs would make you a more skillful boxer, but it will make you a stronger boxer on top of the skill you already have.
ahhh i think i addressed those points. I'm not saying my point is more scientific then yours. It is simple really, you do weights, you get stronger. That's is as scientific as it gets.. and I'm not on steroids, i posted a thread about them that's all i suppose when you are fighting low level amateurs like yourself there is no need for power, points scoring all the way hahahaha i have seen your fights, i suggest you should start doing some weights because with your punching power you wouldn't bruse a grape
yes, i think they mean they are trying to replicate boxing movements in there weight session. doesn't mean they do weights instead of boxing
As sure as the sun will rise, if you do heavy boxing training without lifting weights and intaking adequate protein, you will lose muscle. Sometimes a lot of muscle. Most boxers are not as strong physically as they could be because the intense cardio you do is burning fat but also burning muscle. Yea they are ripped up and look strong but are essentially now built more for speed and endurance than they are for strength (which of course is important in boxing). However, adding some weight training is going to up that strength without slowing you down, which is ideal.
