Who hit harder ? Bert Cooper or Mike Tyson ?

The eye test says he hurt Vander worse then just about anybody in his prime. The resume says differently and the word of mouth favours Cooper- But really at the level of power they both possessed I don't think it matters when they were both one hit quitter punchers.

 

Bert Cooper likely hit harder but Tyson was levels above him as a fighter.

Just because Tyson had a higher KO ratio and KO'd better fighters doesn't mean he hit harder. Tyson has a much better delivery system. Bert Cooper was said to hit harder by multiple fighters

Cooper's sneak inside right hand was his $ punch. He was crafty with it. I wouldn't doubt that punch was on par with Tyson's except Mike had that kind of power in both hands as well as a variety of punches.

It's that old debate. Put them both on a punch machine and Cooper might well get a higher score. He might well punch physically with more force. But if we apply speed to the equation, and the fact that Tyson hit 'better' whilst Cooper's were crude, winging swings in the main, I think Tyson hit EFFECTIVELY harder. People saw Bert's punches coming. Because he sent a pigeon, then a telegram to let the recipient know. Tyson's power punches were like being mugged. In a dark alley. By several assailants. With bats.

 

I believe Oliver McCall said neither Lennox or Tyson hit like Cooper.
