Ali had that sneaky, compact, punching power and it was a short right hand his opponents never saw coming. It was almost impossible to stop or avoid. Haye's is fast for a hayemaker, but its still not very fast. Wlad avoided it most of the fight. Haye's power very overrated while Ali when he wanted had underrated power. Like Floyd he was more about accuracy.
I wouldn't say its "very over-rated", only two of his victories went the distance and one of those was against the big russian bear who haye had dancing all the place in the last round. the other was against a man with only one stoppage loss in the 12th round against Wlodarczyk out of 24 defeats. I would fear for anybody who gets clocked on the chin flush by David
Ali for me, but maybe it was more that he was more sneaky and hit fighters when they didn't see it coming... His speed for a big man was insane too.
How can you say that? Even in his day Ali was regarded as someone who couldn't punch terribly hard, though he had underrated power due to his speed and accuracy, exactly like Mayweather. Haye undoubtably can punch. The amount that Ali hit opponents flush and often, if he could punch as hard as Haye I don't think any fight of the fraizer trilogy would have went the full 15. 70s Ali had a bit more power due to sitting down on his punches more due to being more flat-footed, but he still wasn't a big KO puncher.
Haye is very fast,he's also pretty damn accurate, once he lands once on your chin and has you in trouble ( if you're still standing ) chances are he'll land on it again and again untill he has you on the deck, good finisher. If I was going to give Haye credit for one thing and one thing only it's his power, which he proved the othernight he has in spades at heavy. Sure he's not an ATG but you'd be hard pushed to find a HW nowadays that has that power bar a couple.
Haye obviously. Haye puts much more into his punches. One thing though: Haye may not hit terribly hard in a physical sense (like if you measure the physical impact), but rather his punches are hard to see because he uses feints and disguises his punches. A super hard punch that you see if less devastating than a softer punch that you never see coming. On the other hand a lot of the big hands of Wlad are thrown so obviously that opponents throw up their guard and tuck in their necks so they're relatively well prepared. Doesn't mean the punch isn't hard.
I can't see Haye hurting Frazier or Foreman, nor can I see Ali having issue with Valuev or taking 8 or 9 rounds to get rid of Ruiz. Ali hit harder.
I'm a massive Ali fan, but it's the accumulation of accurate punches that made him so brilliant. Individual power i'd give to Haye. Whether he'd beat Ali/Frazier/Foreman is a different question alltogether.
Haye hits harder, and I think Saturday proved that. Chisora for all his flaws has never been on the canvas. He is one of the best finishers around and I think very few HW would have been able to take some of the punches he landed on Saturday. Ruiz had only been stopped once in his career when Haye fought him (and that was years before) and he knocked him down 4 times in the fight. Valuev has never been stopped and are you telling me any boxer giving up that much weight would have gone for the stoppage??
Haye clearly is the more powerful puncher/harder hitter, it's not even close. That doesn't mean he is a better boxer or would beat Ali in some made up H2H fight, but the man clearly hits harder than Ali did.
