Cheers, mate! I don't think these debates are as clear cut as one may first think. There are so many things to consider that the waters become muddier by the minute. By the way, nice thread on Marciano's power; really started a conversation!

Interesting. Only 3 of the current top 15 heavyweight are 6'3 and weighing between 245-250 or over. Lewis stopped atleast 4 in his career, yet Foreman Old or Young didn't stop anyone that fits that description, not even close to it. I'm curious to know who you think hit harder Lewis or Foreman.

We don’t know at the end of the day, and we can never know.

Based on the size difference we might be justified in thinking that Lewis hit harder, but actual tests of measured punching power under laboratory conditions, have occasionally produced some quite freaky results, in terms of smaller fighters outperforming bigger fighters.

Lewis fought bigger opponents, but it is possible to make too much of this. A lot of Marciano’s opponents were defensive specialists, who tend to be inherently hard to stop. The matter is further compounded by the fact that they are stylistically very different. This makes comparisons harder.

There's no debate here, Lewis hit harder. It's not just the fact that he was bigger than Marciano, but he was faster than him as well! It's pure physics. We're not comparing Tyson to Lewis here, we're comparing Rocky freaking Marciano to Lewis. The weight difference is massive. And like I said, Lewis is faster. He is no arm puncher like Vitali, he threw down with proper technique. And he has plenty of knockouts over big dudes to prove it. He would have seriously messed up Marciano's competition.

    Foreman took out.
    Norton 6 '3" 212
    Lyle 6'3" 220
    Cooney 6'3" 231
    Coetzer 6'4" 216
    Moorer 6'2" 222

Marciano beat one challenger over 200lbs and he was 5'10", and as fat as a pig.

I'd say Foreman hit harder than Lewis but not by much, and both hit significantly harder than Marciano .

    Lewis, by far.

Lennox had one of the greatest and hardest right hands in the history of mankind.

Who is faster, The Rock or Usain Bolt?

I'm thinking the Rock would did down deep with his greasy, hard toughness and beat Bolt to the finish line.

Lyle had lost 2 of his last 3, both by stoppage. Coetzer back to back KO loses as well as being outweighed by 40 pounds. Moorer was outweighed by 30 pounds and Norton was stopped by every big puncher he met. Cooney coming off a 3 year lay off and a previous stoppage loss against a former light heavyweight, could hardly be considered as a force to be reckoned.

Foreman hit as hard as any heavyweight, I'm not here to dispute that, but if your going to dissect Marciano's record and stoppages it's only a fair we do the same back. If you want to say Marciano wasn't a dynamite puncher because he didn't stop a 'modern super heavyweight' then you have to factor in who hit harder for their era and p4p. Foreman isn't levels above Marciano and in this case you can also make a strong argument that Marciano hit equally, if not harder than George for their respective eras and p4p.

Again apologies for discussing in the wrong thread

Cooney was listed at 6'7 for the Norton fight. I have met him in person on two occasions with a buddy of mine who is 6'5 Cooney was a shade taller but also was in his 50s. I'd say he was prob 6'6 in his fighting days.
