Both natural Featherweights so it's an apt and fair comparison, IMO.

Going off of reputation alone you would think Hamed was the bigger puncher no question. As Pacquiao's calling card and reputation was built on workrate and angles. But upon examination I'm not so sure Hamed really did hit harder.

Looking at Hamed's better opposition it seems his power waned. Or at the least did not live up to the reputation. Kevin Kelley even dropped him in the 1st. Then Hamed finished him in the 4th. But Kelley was not an iron chinned fighter. He has been stopped numerous times. Against McCullough, he was the noticeably bigger man. Even though Wayne is known for his fantastic chin he was unable to stop the Bantamweight. Then against Barrera he was unable to stun Barrera. And while Barrera had a very solid chin (it's definitely not an issue for him) he's not exactly packing legendary steel.

Now look at Pacquiao. At 122-126 he was stopping virtually everybody. He carried power comparable power to Hamed at those weights. He had Ledwaba on the run the moment he landed 1 flush punch and then just destroyed him. He is the only man to stop Barrera, although you could say that Barrera's stoppage was more a result of accumulation and exhaustion rather than raw power. Still a prime or near prime Barrera is a nice scalp to KO. And then Marquez a truly iron chin was dropped 3 times in the first round and repeatedly went backwards all night. Could Hamed have put Marquez into retreat all night? I doubt it.

Then we all know that Manny iced Hatton at 140 pounds. We'll never know if Hamed could carry his power to 140 like Pac did. We shouldn't forget the Cotto stoppage either.

    It makes you wonder.

Hamed hands swelled up like soft***** and was having cortizone injections after every fight near the end of his career. His hands couldn't take the massive power he generated by leaping into his punches. Weather or not he could hit harder than Pac is something we will never know because he didn't get the chance to rise throught the weights due to his glass hands.
