Riddick Bowe definitely hit harder. Oliver is a strong guy, but, really about the only guy other than Lewis that he knocked out impressively was weak-chinned Oleg Maskaev.

Bowe stopped Bert Cooper early (close to the time that Cooper gave both Holyfield and Moorer fits). And he was one of the few fighters to Stop a prime Holyfield . (Lewis couldn't so much as drop Evander, even after Holyfield was older and more shopworn). And he quickly dispatched of most of the expected foes.

I agree with the main sentiment. But no way in hell was that a prime Holyfield. He didn't look well. Gasping for air after a couple of rounds. Don't know if it was the heart condition or the Hepatitis, but something was very wrong with him that night.

Tbf, Bowe was also past his prime, surprisingly enough.

I would have loved a Tyson-Bowe, if Bowe had managed to keep his **** together. A prime for prime match-up between them two would have been something.

Bowe by far. I don't think many folks realize just how truly hard Bowe hit. Guy had serious pop in his punches.

I feel Bowe's power is being overrated here. He was more of an attrition puncher not a one punch executioner. McCall certainly could bang. If I had to go with my gut I'd say McCall had more 1 punch ko power.

I agree with you foremanjab, I always felt also that McCall could bang and had very underrated punching power.

Not so sure but they seem just about even in terms of one punch power. Bowe could put em together better, though. On a side note, would've loved to see a McCall-Tua scrap!

I know of two guys who sparred with Bowe (and possibly a third who used to post here)… None said he was an overpowering puncher. One of the reasons was that he telegraphed his punches so much… especially that right he couldn't throw straight.

I'm sure he hit hard. I'm not sure he hit harder than McCall.

Either Bowe is much better boxer than McCall, or he is clearly the harder hitter, but here are results against the same opponents

    Lionel Butler - Bowe KO2, McCall WSD10

    Jesse Fergusson - Bowe KO2, McCall WUD10

    Bruce Seldon - Bowe KO1, McCall KO9

Bowe knocked out Seldon early with punches.

McCall couldn't stop Seldon until he was so fatigued he was going down without even getting punched. McCall landed on Seldon throughout the fight but couldn't hurt him like Bowe did.

There's a need to protray McCall as a dangerous puncher that could blast out anybody with one shot because you know...But the truth is he was not. He only displayed that type of dangerous punching against two men, Lennox Lewis and the fragile Oleg Maskeav in his 7th Pro fight. Both beat the count but were waived off. :think
