Anybody would've knocked out Margarito that night. Did you forget he was exposed as a complete fraud (whether true or not, that's how it appeared to everyone) just moments before the fight?

Left hooks are the number one punch that causes KOs because opponents can't see it if timed and thrown properly.

Oscar causing more KOs could have to do with his superior hook not more power.

Mayorga says Oscar, so thats really all I got to go on never having been in the ring with either.

Single-shot concussive power? Oscar. Shane was physically stronger than Oscar and so did some serious damage to his opponents through accumulation, but Oscar had that venomous kick in his left hand to a greater degree. 130-140 Oscar carried some serious artillery IMO.

    KO percentage:

    Shane 71%
    Oscar 67%

    But...

Oscar fought the better opposition (although not by much), including 2 middleweights (Hopkins and Sturm). Shane never fought Trinidad, a tough guy to stop.

I say they both had equal power.

Some of you guys need a wake-up call on what a monster prime De La Hoya was. Also... any of you saying that Oscar had a weak or horrible uppercut are smoking crack!

Great vid... but every went down from that one amazing left hook. Shane has koed people with a much greater variety of punches..... so Shane may be the better puncher but Oscar may have hit a little harder. If that makes sense.

Exactly, Shane is a physically much more durable and "strong" man - he could outwrestle Vargas and strong guys in clinches, he was the one pushing 300 lb Shaq around, while Oscar had to dance, but that one shot of Oscar was sharp and had sting - for whatever reason strength does not have a direct correlation to punching power (I still think Shane is probably "stronger" than Pac if they went in the gym and started lifting weights and doing traditional exercises)

Oscar leads with his strong hand... he's left handed but fights conventional. This leads to Oscar being efficient with his right hand... he had dropped and stopped people with it... and hurt MANY opponents with a straight right. He also used the right hand in his tremendous combinations. However, most of his knockouts came with his strong hand... his left. Everything that Oscar threw with his left was great. His left hook, uppercut, 45% cutter, jab, ect... it was all brutal including his body punching.

The point is WHO HITS HARDER... and it was clearly Oscar. Wilfredo Rivera said it in the ring directly after he fought Mosley. He was directly asked to compare Oscar vs Shane and what he thought of a fight between the two... Rivera said they were both great, both incredibly fast... but that the difference he felt was that Shane punched like a Welterweight, and that when he fought Oscar... he felt like he was getting hit by a heavyweight... that Oscar had more power.
