Norris delivered quicker but Mike had more power to his punches. He put more behind them. Look at the Curry fight. Both fought him, and they were different styles but Norris hit him over and over and eventually punched him into the canvas. Mike set it up with one punch, some say was a fluke yet it was really a flaw with Donald made probably being distracted with the eye being swollen, but Mike would have landed something eventually he hit that hard. Fact is it took one punch and a mistake to stop Donald and Norris had to punch him down after getting hit clean himself against an old Donald.
McCallum probably a bit heavier in the hands. Neither were "big" punchers but both had good power. McCallum's timing was often exceptional. Norris was quite crisp in his punching, underrated perhaps. He had a fine combination of power and speed.
Well not a fluke as much as out of the blue unexpected as though had that punch not landed the fight might have been different. The Hearns/Barkley fight a year after this fight was seen the same way. I was watching it standing up and I still remember the fight is going one moment and Donald is down the next like a dream.. It was not a fluke. Mike timed him pulling out..
McCallum was a Jr. Middle knocking out Lt. Heavies when he was old and past his prime. Norris was a Jr. Middle knocking out Welters and Jr. Welters when they were old and past their prime.
McCallum record at 154 lbs was 32 - 0 29 ko. His ko % only dropped when he went up in weight. McCallum more dangerous puncher than Norris at 154 lbs while Norris ko came from more accumulation of punches.
