Obviously it's just an exhibition and not proof of anything, but it seems Williams did pretty well for a washed-up 38 year old.

Yeah I agree I went off track a little bit. I just think it is a little irrelevant who hit harder, what matters is who was the better fighter. Either way the OP is about who hit harder so I will respect that.

The vast majority of Cleveland Williams 58 KOs are utterly worthless. It's the guys butter bean was knocking over. Lamar Clark. Same thing.

Are you seriously boosting a knockout resume littered with hyphenated "opponents" called Baby Booze, graveyard Walters, candy McDonald and jock Mcplop and Old Mother Hubbard? 23 of his first 27 fights were against guys with losing records, had never won fights ever, or guys who had never fought before. These are the fights you want to see?

Do you really think it would make any difference if we had the film of Williams blasting out Baby Booze? Do you think more evidence of his punching power as demonstrated against Graveyard Walters or any amount of short blond guys with thin arms and long necks would over shadow Joe Frazier knocking over world class men like Ali, Ellis, Mathis, Quarry, Mathis and stopping Chuvalo?

But how can you tell the force of punches independent of performance?

For example, how can you tell who can hit a golf ball the hardest? I would think the only real evidence is performance. Who in fact does hit the ball farthest? If man A hits the ball 300 yards, and man B only 250 yards, that seems to me definitive that A hits the ball harder.

Are you saying you look at the two golfers and decide who hits the ball hardest on your guess as to potential?

I would point out that while Williams had a body beautiful and Frazier was short and stocky, there isn't really much difference in the overall size of the two men. Williams is much taller, but in shape during prime weighed 210 to 215. Frazier weighed about 205. I judge there is no particular reason to think Williams was the stronger.
