Jesus Christ just play the goddamn fight dude, Ruiz looks taller in every damn second of the match and you can clearly tell from the way they both stand in thumbnail that Ruiz would have been taller even if they stood straight up. Ruiz bends forward just as much as Willis and his head is even more leaned down than Willis', and he is STILL TALLER.

There were moments in Ali and Foreman staredown where Ali would look taller at one angle then Foreman would look taller in another angle. Camera angles can't be relied on, just watch the match and you'll see Ruiz being taller. What is this obsession with making Ruiz 6'0? Holyfield is about 5'11-6'0 then.

No he doesn't. Ruiz has a bigger frame and Willis was crouching down and moving his head all throughout the fight, these two factors collectively give you the illusion that he's shorter. There are moments when they are both upright or clinching and every single time he's not leaning forward they look the same height. Ruiz would not be tall in the 1970s

You're picking and choosing, first claiming Ruiz was crouching when he looked shorter than the other opponents mentioned but Willis wasn't ? The best way to compare fighters height is to have them both upright. Ruiz was like 6 inches shorter than joshua, he is not even 6'1

Yeah, my stance in the thread is that they're all about the same and the fact Usyk has just stopped Dubois isn't some feather in his cap for being a big puncher, no matter what Dubois weighed.

Footage below of Ruiz sparring Holyfield he's clearly shorter in this footage and certainly doesn't look 6'2.

Celebheights have Ruiz listed as 6'0 aswell.

I don't think he's improved in power by too much, I just think the heavyweights he has hurt don't have good chins. Plus, like I said in my first post, Usyk is 220 and has extremely precise shots with good timing. He can hurt any man of any size.

I don't think he's gained that much muscle mass. He's stopped cutting water so his muscles will look fuller but I imagine at least half of the maybe 10lbs he's added is also body fat. The real difference in the effects of his punches are simply because he's holding his feet a lot more.

No different to David Haye's 6'3/6'4 claim or Tyson Fury's 6'9 claim.

FINALLY!!! A voice of reason, and much more important, knowledge.
Usyk has a grand total of (03) ko's at heavyweight, (01) against Witherspoon
    (02) against Dubois, both those fighters were basically worn down
from an accumulation of punishment, brought on from not being
in FIGHTING shape, and lack of simple boxing skills like defensive
hand placement, no head movement, complete lack of ability
    to slip or ride punches.
Yet somehow how his punching is being compared to much
better proven punchers like Ali and Holmes.
These Usyk fan boys need to stop the foolishness.

Random observations. 1) A head is a head. Being larger doesnt offer you more protection from a good head shot. Your brain is still getting concussed. 2) Even defensive mavens get hit in the head. 3) That's why defensive mavens like Wilfred Benitez and Jimmy Young ended up with brain trauma related diseases.

Disagree. A larger head means more mass to move, which means more force is needed to move it. Obviously head size is not the only factor in having a good chin, but all other things being equal you'de rather want a nice big watermelon of a head than a peanut head when getting punched.

Definitely want a big meat head, not a little one. You also want a big neck too, preferably one strong isometrically, as to prevent unwanted movement rather than being strong while moving concentrically.

I don't know of any literature regarding this, but I'd imagine strong, stocky legs are also a big factor in how well you take a punch - or at least, not going down from one. In fact, I think Jim Lampley said similar about Canelo and his horse riding recently

Ali got dropped by those two at like 20/21, that's before your skeleton is even finished developing. He also has a much longer spectrum of his career at heavyweight where he's almost unstoppable - and the damage he took off Frazier, Holmes, Foreman and Shavers within the being knocked out clearly show his great chin. If since losing to Joyce, Dubois had took a 12 round beating off Wilder then id be all for his chin, but as it stands, he's faced two punchers - got stopped by one and was clearly effected by basically the only power shot Joshua landed. I'm all for the idea that a 230lbs guy can hurt anyone, but when said 230lbs guy has a history of not stopping half of his opponents, and Dubois has no other feats of his chin - I'm just not convinced.

I actually agree - except about McCall, I don't think Usyk hurts him at all. What makes real life great is that some guys might as well have been pulled out of a comic book for one reason or another. McCall is one of them and his chin is why. But yeah, I do agree that shot would've had most heavyweights hurting.

Holyfield is 6ft 1 or so.
Ruiz is not far off at 6ft. Visible on the video.
    Absolutely not Ali sized.
