yeah but he was rocked alot by guys who I wouldnt consider big punchers. Cooper, Botha, Holyfield, all hurt Moorer. Moorer was Ko'd by Holyfield, and Tua in 30 seconds. I think its pretty obvious he didnt have a good chin. Also using one example to describe a guy is really not fair. George was a good puncher, but the shot he hit moorer with was right on the button to say goodnight. That shot could have KO'd Oliver Mcall if it landed in the same spot. Moorer just left himself wide open because he didnt respect Foreman. The fact is Foreman never was able to get lucky enough to land that kind of shot against anyone else. Most of his fights against anyone worth a dam in his comeback went the distance. In fact I dont think he KO'd anyone besides Moorer that was worth a dam. Guys like Morrison, Savarese and Briggs, Grimsley, who was knocked out in 10 seconds by Thunder, all went the distance with Foreman and were able to take his shots.
Out of all those guys that went the distance with Foreman and lost Savarese is the only one who stood toe-to-toe, but even he was knocked down. Case #2 that Tyson may've been a harder hitter would be Savarese. Savarese didn't last one round with Mike but went the distance with George.
tyson was faster. both very powerful. i wouldn't want to take a punch from either. if i were to choose i would say tyson was the better puncher.
I don't remember Moorer being hurt by Botha and Holyfield stopped your boy Tyson in 11. It took him 20 rounds to stop Moorer.
Tyson was no doubt a powerful puncher - obviously - but I think a good portion of his KDs and KOs were due, in part, to the fact that his opponents weren't expecting it. They'd get blasted to the body, then, before they realise what is happening, another one comes immediatley afterward into the chin. He had such great speed and pretty good accuracy to go with his power, and that is what made him so devastating. Foreman was just a naturally hard puncher. There are tons of guys that are bigger or stronger, but for whatever reason there are few people that can use that size to generate a big punch like him. If you watch him close, he plants his feet, pushes off slightly and moves his whole body with the punch - plus forces his fist right through the target. He was just efficient with what he had and didn't need to punch fast. One of my favorite KOs ever was his KO of Moorer. The right that finished him landed straight-on on his chin, and seemed to send the energy straight into his spinal column and brain. It seemed to push his chin into his throat. It wasn't a fast punch, just pure power and there was no resisting that KO.
Tysons so called KO of Stewart was more Steward scared trowing himself at the canvas much like Tyson vs Seldon i smell King in those 2 fights.
I agree with this statement, power is the last to go with age. Tyson's KOs since to be more due to sharpness and angle of punch rather than power. I think Foreman and Lewis hits way harder than Tyson.
Foreman would hit you once with a mack truck.. Tyson would run into you time and time again repeatedly with a caddilac.. Both powerful but both had a different way of hurting you permanently..
people forget that the delivery skills fade long before that. without that - power is useless. had tyson landed a punch like botha - we'd have seen just how limited - or unllimited his power was. foreman is an exception because his delivery system was very crude and clubbing (still effective) that did not depend on youth but just strength which big george always had.
That fight was on the undercard of Tyson Holy 1. Probably the best fight Moorer was ever in at heavyweight. Botha had him stunned and almost knocked him down.
Michaels fight with Botha was probably the best single display he put on at heavyweight.. Botha was so game.. He made Mike dig deep in the mid to late rounds.. I always liked Francois, he gave his best and was durable. never as asthetically pleasing but a good determined fighter. I was so pissed at Moorer when he boxed Holyfield the second time for the lack of training dedication.. he weighed in fat and just went through the motions like he was pleased to be there.. Mike Grant was in Holyfields camp all that week and i thought he looked more ready for a major fight than Mike did.. Even Jeffrey Wooden the sparring partner looked more sparky than Moorer.. I miss Moorer from the Botha fight , he had some skills..
I guess that we didn't see the fight the same way. That was a great fight for both guys though. Cooper could hit pretty good. He had Holyfield down where as Foreman and Tyson did not. I remember a prefight interview where Cooper said that he thought he could hit harder than Tyson. (It did make me think a bit after had Holyfield down). Botha did give Moorer a good fight before being stopped.
