They were past it, but live corpses ?

Archie Moore was the Light Heavyweight champion of the world, and had made 4 defences against men like Harold Johnson and Joey Maxim, who would be far and away Beterbiev's best wins. He had also beaten the #1 Heavyweight contender Nino Valdes and became the #1 Heavyweight in the world just before fighting Marciano, and would then proceed to win 36 more fights, some against Heavyweight contenders, and have 5 more title defences at LHW.

Ezzard Charles was past his prime, but he had recently defeated the hard hitting Bob Satterfield and had lost a very close bout with a top 10 all time great Light Heavyweights in Harold Johnson, who was in his prime.

Jersey Joe Walcott had just gotten the Heavyweight title from Ezzard Charles, arguably a prime one, who was coming off of wins against half a dozen Heavyweight contenders. He probably was the one to end Charles' prime by knocking him out, and then proceeded to beat him in a rematch.

By all means, do try to explain why the likes of Joe Smith Jr, Anthony Yarde, Callum Johnson and Marcus Browne were better. Gvozdyck I kinda get, even though I disagree. But them ? No chance in hell.

I'm a big Beterbiev fan but the fact is that he doesn't throw the kitchen sink into every shot. He keeps his punches short, controlled and triphammer hard. Marciano on the other hand was lighter on skill but he used to throw every second punch like he wanted to kill you and, by hydrostatic shock, the next three guys in the front row. Given that Marciano is also heavier than Beterbiev he almost certainly hits harder punch for punch.

If you wanted a model for copying as a fighter, then Beterbiev is far superior. Marciano loads up his shots and doesn't really throw them in combination, but more as series of individual thudding blows. You can just see the intentions behind every shot.

Is Marciano heavier though? I'd say come fight night they're both around the same weight.

Debatable though I guess AB might put on ~10lbs of water weight.
