Woodley was the biggest puncher of the 3 but the other 2 were better fighters especially GSP of course. Woodley also had a pathetic gas tank and had a bit of a quitters mentality imo. The way he gave up his belt to Usman was embarrassing.
Agreed. Not only was his gas tank pathetic, but he also had a very limited skill set. BJJ Scout made a video analyzing his style and showed how Rory MacDonald picked him apart. Woodley would just hang back against the cage, trying to incite people into attacking to trap him against the fence where he couldn't move. Then he would either counter their aggressive strikes with his overhand right or a double leg takedown. Occasionally, he would sporadically lunge forward with a wild overhand right that could sometimes catch people by surprise because of it's speed. But in reality, his entire game was based around very limited counters. Rory showed the blue print on how to beat him. You throw long range strikes like front kicks and a jab that keep him at distance. You pot shot him, avoiding lengthy combination and just pick him apart. You use pump fakes and feints with your jab to keep him off balance. You stiff arm with your lead hand to neutralize his overhand right and you deflect that punch with elbow blocks, protecting your chin, if he is able to get it off. Throw throwaway jabs and straight punches after your kicks so you're not exposed to potential counters. Most importantly, you just never over commit with him. You inch forward in a narrow stance, land long shots and then back out. If you never gave him a chance to counter, he was very beatable. As far as pure power goes, the rankings would have to be Woodley, Usman and then GSP. Georges was the best fighter between the three, though. Usman was great but we're starting to see confirmation of that now. This content is protected
