Ortiz own resume is pretty damn empty too - another hugely inflated reputation, probably around gatekeeper level in fairness.

I'd say he's above, world class but thats as far as he goes. He stopped Bryant Jennings who is a high end gatekeeper, but yeah besides that Ortiz's resume sucks

Fair enough... I have him roughly top end of gatekeeper, fairly equal to Chisora, but certainly fringe top ten at best - never in a million years the top 5 he was claimed as when fighting Wilder.

You really do not know Mark? Just look at the records of the guys he fought in his prime.
Having minimal defeats or nine like Tubbs at 34-0. https://boxrec.com/en/proboxer/474

That was the question of the thread though as you said yourself in response to @BubblesUK

I think Tony Tucker probably would beat him. But Mike didn't stop Tucker. But I take your point. However how many clean KOs did Mike score? Not many once he left the early prospect stage.

The question was who hits harder. Not who was better. Mike was obviously a far better heavyweight.

But Wilder hits harder. That's all I'm saying.

The Tuscaloser's knees would be shaking like a pooping dog's in Antarctica at the pre-fight press conferences and the face to face and not without good reason because Mike would spark him out cold in 30 seconds

tyson. he could generate power through every punch he could throw. from any angle. wilder needs full extension in his strong hand to generate that type of power. he needs that final snap that the elbow straightening creates. tyson could ko you if he caught you mid swing. the reson tyson dont have many straight right kos is because he has short arms, his advance can be halted with a stiff jab. he has to get past their longer arm, and once he does, a hook is a more natural weapon at close quarters.

He would have got in with Holy in 1988 though.

Tyson wasn`t a one punch KO artist aside from Berbick, Tubbs and Spinks, Tucker took Mike`s power flush with ease.

It's been said at least a couple of times already, but peak Tyson was a world class volume puncher with very good but not super-elite one punch knockout power, whereas peak Wilder was a middling all-round fighter with world class one punch knockout power.

I would generally agree that that's probably true.

I would suggest, however, that the mediocre to pathetic nature of most of Wilders opponents that he had it far easier to unleash his 100% blow than Tyson had against mostly vastly better competition...

Again, Wilder probably hits a bit harder but it's also both difficult to be completely sure and rendered completely meaningless by Wilders total unwillingness to fight genuine contenders.

Add Etienne, Botha, Tillman, Boyd, Richardson and Colay. So that's 9 guys he stopped with one punch.

Wilder had been outboxed by slow old Ortiz who I think is good and skilled boxer but he was aging and slow.
Yeah, Wilder managed to land on him but not in early rounds.

Now imagine in prime shape, highly disciplined and motivated Tyson.
This Tyson had used peek a bo style what will be total nightmare hell alone for Wilder. This isn't boxing for judges cards in his own core and requires very good legs and legwork. Prime Tyson had better legs than prime Patterson and was small target while being very athletic and powerful physically for his height, reach and weight. Wilder will not outmuscle prime shape Mike.

Yeah, Wilder does have huge for his weight power in right hand but he is predictable and needs distance to land his money punches.

Patient and motivated Mike didn't needed 1 punch KO power to beat Wilder at all.
Scenario: Mike gets when Wilder will attempt to land on him right hand, for him 1 thing needed is to close distance and take angles, not get hit with 1 punch and vuala, Mike launches his combos. Okey, if just half from this will land, it will not be fun.
Then Mike might continue to batter him until he maybe will manage increase distance vs Mike and attempt to recover.

Then cycle repeats again and again, imagine?
If Wilder will get nervous and attempt to launch his money punch with full possible amplitude and distance usage then yeah Mike might KO him with 1 counter punch here.

I imagine how Wilder might look after 1 st round vs prime shape disciplined Mike or evn vs prime shape Holyfield. :p:D

I believe firmly that Wilder would get KO'd in 1 round. Tyson's style is the worst possible style for Wilder. He cannot handle quick, intelligent/skilled aggression.

Prime Tyson is literally the worst possible fight Wilder could ever have. Would get KO'd in 1-2 minutes probably. No exaggeration.

Even then, Berbick and Spinks got up after being hit. Or at least, Berbick tried to get up.
