Shot for shot? Nah, he had to break his man down. Shot for shot he probably wasn't much better than Duran.

Thank you, been saying this for about seven years, nobody ever listens.

You see him on here listed as a p4p hitter sometimes

De La Hoya's power at 135 was nothing to be sneezed at.

Interesting shout, as far as chopping down quality competition with power shots you might be right on the money. Certainly he has a ring death(s?) to his name as well as quite a few notable one punch knockouts. Burge, Everhardt, etc. Certainly a far better fighter than Jenkins in terms of talent and accomplishment.

I also agree that Ike is severely overrated as a banger. Honestly I think Gans was better.

There is no doubt that both Williams and Duran were hitters though.

It's like comparing Jofres power to Zamoras though; pure power, nah, not Ike, a serious puncher due to his application as well as natural dig, but no freak.

If you havent got it already amazon Heller's "in this corner: 42 world champions tell their stories", Jenkins is full of excuses about never training, getting hammered and smoking cigarettes instead of being in the gym, bad conditions for fights etc... Just comes off as a huge anus, personally.

I found this to be true of about 95% of the fighters interviewed. It's the reason I don't hold this book in as high a regard as many of the posters on ESB. Some of the anecdotes are priceless and a handful of the interviews give a valuable window into certain eras. But overall it just read like a 300-plus page excuse fest.

    Just my observation.

Looks like El Chapo is winning this poll by a landslide!

If the idea of having career retrospective interviews from everyone to Gunboat Smith to Armstrong to Moore to Ali to Griffith to Duran interests you, i'd snap it up.

True, but Jenkins' is on another level. "I nevah trained for this guy. I got drunk instead. I got arrested in saint louis. Ah nevah trained for a fight. Ah fought in the war. I beat Lou Ahmbers in 3 rounds. He nevah sah it coming. Ah didn't train for that fight neithah."
