Of course Hopkins had the better run at middle, achieved much more etc.

BUT, who had the best single win at the weight between him and James Toney?

    - Hopkins TKO12 over Tito Trinidad (40-0, WBA mw champ, highly ranked p4p)

    or

    - Toney TKO11 over Michael Nunn (36-0, IBF mw champ, highly ranked p4p)

Toney for me.... I just feel that Nunn was better at Middleweight than Trinidad was.

Nunn underrated and overlooked . . . Tito, very good @ WW/JMW. @ Middle what did he do?

Was the 1st man to knock out William Joppy?

Was the 1st man to knock out Ricardo Mayorga?

The Joppy win is very good but besides that he did nothing.

Mayorga had no business at 160 and outside of 147 he wasnt ****.

same here. trinidad may have been better in a pound for pound sense but nunn was far better and far more proven. hopkins performance was more impressive but toney's late round KO, along with the calibre of his opponent at that weight and pound for pound status makes a compelling case

Toney's performance was brilliant. It is a commonly believed myth that Nunn was spanking him until the TKO. Nunn had built a healthy lead in a competitive and highly skilled contest, but by the time of the stoppage Toney had, through adapting and imposing his will and fantastic skills, turned the fight around. He had won clearly and convincingly the previous three rounds before the stoppage, if I remember rightly. Yes, he would probably still have dropped a points decision if he didn't drop Nunn in the 11th or 12th, but he had still shown tremendous heart, intelligence and ability in that fight before he landed the decisive punch.

And Toney's win over Nunn is clearly the better IMO Nunn was the man at 160 he held the IBF title but he also beat the WBA champ Sumbu Kalumbay. Nunn also has wins over Frank Tate, Juan Roldan, Iran Barkley, Marlon Starling and Don Curry. Nunn was also top 5 P4P at the time.

Tito was amazing himself but at 160 outside of Joppy there is nothing to speak of.

Tito was the better fighter but Nunn was the better Middleweight clearly. Not to mention this was Toney's first title fight and wasnt anywhere near his prime where with Hopkins he was probably never better.

    Nice work :deal

I think they are both brilliant wins, but I do give the edge to Toney.

I agree. Though in my eyes, they were both brilliant wins and brilliant performances. Toney responded sensationally well to a very very difficult opponent and situation.

Nunn was a damn good fighter, that certainly gave one of the best versions of Toney a sure run for his money. He was a much more proven MW than Trinidad was in my opinion, and had a much more tricky style to solve than that of the Trinidad that Hopkins fought.

Hopkins was the greater MW, but Toney had the single greatest win there of the two. Just like Calzaghe was the greater SMW, but Jones had the greatest win there.:yep

But 1994 Jones creams any version of Calzaghe, no doubt about it.

Does 2001 B-Hop beat the best mw version of Toney??? :huh Now there's a question...

Toney over Nunn is better it was a huge upset that I didn't see coming at the time. Hopkins win over Tito was easy to see if you followed Hopkins' career.
