Who holds the better win over Qawi: Michael Spinks or Holyfield (1st fight)?

Michael Spinks was masterful in defeating an unseemingly invincible fighter in
Dwight Braxton at 175 lbs.

Dwight just didn't win his fights, he brutalized and ruined everyone he faced up to that point.
He looked unstoppable heading into that fight.

 

Spinks holds the better win.

Holyfield had the more exciting fight.

before the fight qawi/braxton had been suffering with a virus thats all.did you notice as early as the of the 2nd round qawi seemed to be quite breathless for a well conditioned fighter.

spinks could be a slowish starter but he was fast out of the blocks in this fight and for me this took some of the play away from qawi.through out the fight spinks use of the jab and lateral movement were of the highest level .also his right hands and uppercuts were also a big part of the fight eddie futch was a smart man:deal .qawi did not cut the ring off and at times in the second half of the fight seemed to be just walking forward and not getting close enough to land .for me qawi did not focus on the body enough either, although the legit kd was from a body shot ,and yes i know spinks was not hurt he was more off balance and i think qawi might of been stepping on spinks foot:yep

it was mentioned in the pre fight build up and on the fight commentary

 

I thought Holy got some home cooking down in Georgia back in the summer of 1986...

I also felt Qawi drew with the running and pitty-pattying Holy as well in '86...

NOW! The 1987 rematch was a whole new ball game for Holy and Qawi...

For me, it is Spinks, no contest. If memory serves me correctly, the mother of Spinks' daughter died just before that fight. His daughter was asking where her mother was in the dressing room on fight night and Spinks broke down just before heading to the ring. What heart Spinks had.

 

Spinks' wide victory was viewed as more of a shock, IMO, at the time. We thought it would be close, could go either way, but Michael won it widely. Even though Holyfield was inexperienced and Qawi was seen as a huge step up for him, I think the general consensus was that the young Olympian would come of age and find a way to win over the dangerous veteran. And that's what happened, if only by a hair. So to me it was not really a surprise.

 

That's what sticks out in my mind when I think of Spinks/Qawi. Very technical fight with skill displayed by both men. I remember him using the jab a lot but I thought it was power shots such as the straight and uppercut that really helped him win. The jab set those up I remember that but it's combination punching from Spinks that sticks out to me.
