Bernard Mays worthy of a mention.

So undefeated until almost 2000 odd? Another decade after the Douglas loss? Not a chance imo tho i guess he did save 4 years of wear and tear by going to jail. Swarmers wear out quicker, that's just a part of boxing. He also had Bowe, Holyfield and Lewis coming to the fore. Even at his best he doesn't get thru that lot unscathed, again, imo.

His personal problems and slacking off wouldn't have been kept in check by Rooney staying imo. He was off the rails. I don't know that Rooney could have kept him in check. Just like winter in Game of Thrones, inconsistency was coming.

He wasn't cut out for an overly long reign either physically or mentally. Maybe if Cus was around he could have prolonged everything. That snake Don King may not have been able to go after Rooney thru the women.

Maybe Juan Laporte fits the bill.

He just would not step on the gas. He'd hurt a guy and stop. Polar opposite of say, Saad Muhammad. Maybe he had bad hands or something but he was always in close fights that he'd lose. But they were there for the taking & he just couldn't or wouldn't, go for the knockdown or possible stoppage.

He had talent. Great whiskers & so hard to hurt or discourage. Top conditioning. Sure didn't fight smart but certainly didn't fight dumb either. It may have been a physical thing with those hands or maybe it just wasn't in his character to become aggressive and try to stop an opponent. Never could figure that part out. But something crucial was missing.

He was frustrating to watch alright & lots of guys do not even put themselves in the position to capitalize. Especially against such top notch caliber opposition.

Hatton - poor coaching and no discipline.

Was way too quick to have such a poor defense.
