Who in ESB was around to see

1952 I sneaked my way into a neighbors house to see if the 175 pound woamn would black her 135 husband's eye again. I leared all about boxing but foot work.
Odd but in the 70's I did not think I was living in a Golden age of boxing. Things were getting ****ed up, Jr. Middle wight, Jr. Wellter weight, , all sorts of belts and no one fighting each other.

Now the early -mid 50s was the golden age of boxing, so much boxing on TV, three of four nights a week, must have had at least 8 hours of boxing on. But the Neilson box killed that, because they didn't have them in Bars where the men went to watch the fights.
@ 1956-7 the fourth channel the one with the most boxing folded, after that it was all down hill.

I rooted for my man Archie over the Rock, having seen more of him on TV....I did not root for him vs Patterson, in I knew Archie was too old for super fast young Patterson.
I was allowed to stay up extra late to watch the fights from Rockway or something like that.

I lost money on the first Patterson Ingo fight, but got it back because Life said he was parting too much, on the second fight....ok it was not much money, but if you could bet a dime here and a quarter there that was big money for a kid with out an allowance....a dime got you two big candy bars, and 15 cents got you into the movies and a small bag of popcorn was a nickle.
So it was big enough money, that I didn't want to bet stupid.

Back in the day, you had the tale of the Tape the day before a big fight, in all the newspapers. Tale of the Tape was vital betting measurements, not what he'd won like I'd seen listed somewhere to my shock of today.

They measured everything but his hat size, foot size and what was hidden by his trunks. Height, reach, and where he carried his weight, Chest, waist, fist, wrist, arm size and so on. Calf and thigh too.

One pondered the measurements. Skinny legs for his size? Too much weight in the legs? Fist and wrist size was thought important. Fore arm too....was there too much bicep?
This was something kids did back in the old days....well I sure did, especially if I was going to be risking a fortune of say $0.50 or even $0.75.

I was so stupid with Liston vs Patterson..2x's....then I was stupid with Liston vs Clay and Ali too. Later I was stupid with Liston vs Leotus Martin too.
