Who in the history of boxing would you favor over Hearns at 147-154?

Despite the fact that Hearns was a monster across both of these divisions, there are fighters capable of beating him on a given night.

I think deep down Leonard is still counting his blessings that he never took Hearns on at 154lbs but he would definitely have a shot.

I'm the exception to the rule which says Robinson is unbeatable. He got tagged repeatedly by lesser fighters than Hearns and his defence, at least at 160lbs, is over rated.

Terry Norris, Oscar De La Hoya, Felix Trinidad, Mike McCallum and has anyone said Roy Jones yet - all have the talent and the power to give Hearns a nightmare at 154lbs.

Hearns reputation at JMW comes via his KO of Duran, who was made to order and haunted by Hearns. Tommy went the distance with Benitez, Sutherland and Minchillo and looked like **** against Mark Medal.

At 147lbs, Hearns was awesome but again, if you can get into the late rounds, and test his endurance, he was not unbeatable. How many great fighters did he beat at welterweight?

    Paul "the punnisher" williams and

    Marvelous Marvin Hagler

I havent read everyone elses comments yet so Im going back now to read them

    Im adding in

Obviously SRR I didnt say him originally cause OP put him as an example right off the bat

    Mosely
    Juan Roldan
    Carmen Basilio
    Gene Fullmer
    Roy Jones Jnr @ 154
    Manny Pac
    Hopkins
    Delahoya

as stupid as many people will think this sounds even

Saul Alvarez and Chavez Jnr current versions have a shot
and Sexy Sergio. first time ive type that nick name in feels gay! nohomo

I have to comment, this is kind of an unfair thread question since Tommy Hearns was very successful at much higher weights than
    154
he won world titles at 147,154 160, 168, 175, (and 190 arguably) and with modern training and supplementing methods

(Vitamin S) he might have had a shot at Povetkin and collected a belt at Heavyweight in the recent past or future

with plenty of "supplements and alittle powerlifting he could fill out to 225 and have a shot at weaker heavyweight champions.

    I'm talking about 147-154.

And at those weights he was stopped once in the 14th. So yeah, that whole "chinny" thing is a myth that has miraculously survived as long as it has.

And I'm not saying the guy can't be beaten... I'm just asking who would you favor.

Hearns was dominating the first fight until he gassed. Tommy should be a heavy favorite against SRL.

Tito was unbeatable in the late 90s but I think Hearns' right hand would make Trinidad think twice before letting that left hook fly. If he can't land the left hook, he can't win...Hearns TKO6.

Based on what? You can't counter what you can't reach and Tommy would keep Floyd at bay with the jab all night.

Really? Sergio can't box with Hearns and he bases everything on the straight left so he's gonna be eating a lot of right hand counters over the top ...for as long as his face can take it.

I love Duran and the Montreal version was a man on a mission but I think he'd have to work a bit too hard to consistently get inside Tommy's length and do enough to take a 15 rd decision. I see him having success early on but he'd eventually slow down around the 9th or 10th and get caught.

It's a really hard call. Even against Leonard, Hearns was looking good until Leonard closed the show in the very end. Hearns was a tremendous fighter, but vulnerable. I'd put him as a favourite over Robinson, but then I could see him getting toppled in that one as well in different scenarios.

I wouldn't say Hearns is "chinny", but that he's vulnerable. When you consider who knocked him out, it's not reasonable to call him "chinny". Not to mention the Hagler fight was just the kind of fight that won't go past six rounds one way or another. War is war.

I`d agree, Leonard did beat him but a rematch is still a 50/50 IMO...

Robinson I`d pick to win but its a dangerous fight no doubt....

An Armstrong match up is fascinating, I wouldn`t pick him over Hearns tho, guys like fmj or Whitaker are too small to beat Hearns.
