ive got my purple belt in bjj and about a years worth of boxing in the ams when i was 19. right now im looking around to start a bit of muay thai and really want to learn the intricate details of the clinch
Used to train karate, aidkido and jiujitsu but now I'm just training on my XBOX. Still like to get out and hit the heavybag when I get the chance.
5 years BJJ, not been training as much as I should have for the past 12 months. 4 years boxing (been out for the past ~12 months), should be starting back up again soon.
24 - started Muay Thai and boxing for a few years when I was about 10-13 but didn't get back into combat sports until 18/19 because I was playing rugby at a decent level. 5/6 years of MMA, boxing, Thai, BJJ, wrestling etc. 5-1 pro record (17-3-1 overall inc. ammys), BJJ purple belt and had one unlicensed boxing match, but hoping to get a few more in soon.
Thanks. I actually have been training in Jeet Kune Do for a little over a yr. now under the Gary Dill sec. Already incorpated some muay thai(the clinch mostly) I'm getting ready to enter adnavce level 5 in JKD and I train in the original JKD which already has aikido, savate, kung fu, tae kwon do and muay thai in it so i'm getting a little bit of all the most effective techiniques. I'll be learning the concepts as well so I can eventually teach and maybe compete down the road. Once I complete JKD, I got some guys that i'ma train with to start learning some BJJ and some Shaolin to go with it.
JJ for 3 years on and off , never been graded but can hold my own with some local brown belts , Muay Thai for a year and a half and boxing pretty much for the last ten years . Train MMA 5 days a week but dont like the commitment of competition i.e. making weight , plus i work away so all of the above is when im actually in the UK apart from going to Thailand where i have regurlarly visited during the last 18 months to train stand up
3 years on and off and you can "hold your own" against brown belts? I see a few possibilities: You're something of a BJJ savant, learning far faster and more effectively than a vast majority of practicioners. The brown belts are going easy on you and you don't notice it. The brown belts are terrible with respect to the technical knowledge necessary to be a brown belt Selective memory and/or you only do well in very specific spots using very specific techniques that you've done more than others. You're lying. Sooooo?
I agree. Generally speaking, someone with '3 years on and off' would/should struggle with a decent blue belt, let alone a brown belt. I've been training five years, I'm a good blue belt (and would be a purple belt or very close to it at the majority of clubs) and I still get molested by decent brown belts.
this.. im a purple belt (albeit a fairly average one) and i cant touch the brown belts. unless his name is bj penn i smell bull****..
