Who in your considered opinion is the greatest boxer in history pound for pound? Your answer is not expected to be the same as mine but it will indicate if you know what you are talking about when it comes to boxing.

This is a test question I set to know whether a person is a real boxing fan or person or someone who does not know **** about boxing.

For the avoidance of doubt this question is about boxing not other combat sports like MMA, Karate, Judo, Wrestling, street fighting, bare knuckle fighting etc.

This also does not include amateur boxing so an answer like Lomachenko , Rigondeaux, Mark Breland, Teofilo Stevenson, Savon and numerous Cuban amateur greats will display your lack of knowledge of professional prize fighting. Yes the aforementioned are in the running for greatest ever amateurs but that is not the question.

Ok so when I saw the thread title 3 names immediately came to mind…. I know you said one but for me each guy could lay claim…. In no particular order

Pep, SRR and Greb came to mind.

Pep’s record, his boxing skills , and defensive mastery were incredible

SRR had two fisted power, steel chin,an amazing skill set, and at one time was 128-1. Won titles in more then one weight class.

Greb beat more hall of famers then anyone, went 45-0 in one year, and fought in numerous weight classes. And had one eye for a good portion of his career.

sorry to stray from your title thread but these 3 for me can make an argument for that title on any given day.

Honorable mention to the great Sam Langford

What's your take on Henry Armstrong? Held 3 titles in the 1 champ era, when there were only 8 divisions. Fought to a draw for the MW belt during that time. He has to be in the conversation.

    John Ryder.

Btw the OP deciding if someone knows or doesnt know **** about boxing its like having the dumbest student in the entire school correcting the tests of other students. Laughable to say the least.

SRR, but strong arguments could be made for Duran, Armstrong, Archie Moore, Louis, Ali. I have to throw Mayweather out there, though I sense I might get crucified by some for it.

Absolutely he should be considered also… I only listed the guys who immediately came to mind. Armstrong had a tremendous career with a lot of great wins and title defenses. Plus his accomplishment of the three division titles at once. I just mentioned the guys who immediately popped out at me .

In my opinion Ray Robinson or Harry Greb have the two best arguments for the Greatest Boxer ever. Robinson looks the best and his record is amazing and even if there’s no footage of Greb his record is the best and will never be surpassed.

People like Langford, Armstrong, Charles and even Ali, Pep, or some would say Duran could be put at number 1.

Boxing is such a deep sport and if you really want an obscure pick I think Jimmy Wild is a decent but far fetched pick.

    Muhammad Ali

Boxing has amazed me in many ways but no one boxer has amazed me more than that guy. Only person to come close is Pacquiao.
