Who In Your Opinion Is The Most Overrated ATG?

Roberto Duran. Never knocked out an ATG fighter. His lightweight reign was mediocre no matter what anyone says. He beat Leonard at his own fight, but didn't knock him out,and then Ray fought his fight and easily beat Duran the next two times in outclassings. Duran was stopped by Hearns and easily beaten by Benitez. His fans say that beating Moore and Barkley are great accomplishments, but neither of those two guys is great.

 

Duran being mentioned anywhere near this thread is ludicrous.

 

There was a short time when I thought Larry Holmes was getting a little too much praise. The man is good, and probably one of the most determined champs out there. I remember when he was starting to peak at the 3rd spot in some top 10's that I saw.

Lennox or the Klitschko's I thought got too much blind praise. Lennox isn't nearly as "hot button" as a few years ago and the Klitschko's are busy cleaning out a weak division in a style of their own accord.

It evens out over time. That's what I like about this board. Some people may be stodgy and set in their ways, but the opinion on this forum does a good job of keeping itself in check. I just think the Duran issue is getting out of hand (I think he's being rapidly underrated, and I can't really see why).

I'm on the fence about Roberto Duran. He was no doubt a great fighter... but some people around here overrate him for sure.

 

I think Rocky Graziano is over rated. He was easy to hit, and often a wild swinger whose punches were easy to avoid. Great power, tremendously aggressive, tough but not iron-chinned. I think he's cold meat against most skilled boxers.

In all time tournament of the top 50-100 MWs, I think Rocky would have a few spectaluar KOs, but a ton of lossses to fighters not as well known as he is.

 

Im just throwing out something I read here the other day in terms of greatest footwork of all time and somehow someone threw out Greb. Ive read some reports and what not of him constantly moving, damn near impossible to hit, but saying he was James Brown without any footage (I am not trying to diminish this ATG) was a tad over rated

 

Muhammad Ali can be terribly overrated sometimes. some people think he's a god or something.

 

I've always thought Graziano was crude and looked bad on film.

He's got heart, and he's tough, and an action-packed slugger but he's not an elite MW. A shame he was too small for MW and too big for WW he could have been killer for the JMW division.

Theres plenty,i usually dont get into these ATG type lists,but 1 thing for sure that i know Hearns should be much further up these bull**** lists than he is,but these guys are overrated some of them super duper overrated,like Duran,Monzon.Dempsey,and Jones.:deal

 

Duran is my all-time fav fighter. However, some people on here think he's superman.
