There's no #1 since there is no undisputed champion but currently Margarito is considered #1 since Cotto was rated there after Mayweather retired. Margarito is a former IBF/WBO champion and current WBA champion so logically he's rated #1 right now. Paul Williams is #2 as obvious.

There is no clear #1, if I was forced to make a choice I guess I would chose Williams. But no one should be saying anyone is #1 in that division, I think that's what makes it so good. There's so many good fighters and then there's always the prospect of one of them pulling Floyd out of retirement.

No clear cut number 1 but I would say Margarito as he beat the guy most considered the best in the division.

since last night u gotta run with margo at welter. PW looked better at middleweight, more natural. i think dropping down to welter is more dangerous. look at the 1st fight with quintanna, weight was the only factor. margo destroyed cotto physically & mentally. he's a beast

How the hell is this even a question? Paul beat Margorito rather clearly in a good fight so I can't see the logic in saying Margorito is better then Paul because he beat up Cotto. Cotto is not Paul Williams. Paul Williams has to be considered the best right now exspecially with Margo ducking his biggest payday not to fight him again. The two guys with the best cases as at number one have already faught so its not a question. I could see if they had faught five or ten years ago but it was recent. Williams number one at Welter.:hi: :happy :happy :happy :happy

No clear #1. If I had to do rankings, it would be #1 Margarito (for now) and #1a Paul Williams. But really, until we see Part II between these two, it's wide open. I think the future though may be what Andre Berto can do with Forbes and who he chooses afterwards.

Again, there's a certain order to these things. Just because Williams has a victory over Margarito when they were each ranked #5 and #6 or whatever doesn't mean Williams gets to automatically leapfrog Margarito in every single one of his future exploits. That's not how it works. Williams got utterly dominated by - what was Quintana rated when he beat Williams? #8 or #14 or something? Margarito is unquestionably ranked higher than Williams.

Margo got that #1 position at WW when he beat cotto but he has to fight pwill if he wants to solidify that position and erase doubts in people's mind thaT HE IS DUCKING HIM.

Come on guys first of all just look at who they have both fought at WW.
PW really hasnt fought many top fighters compared to Margarito who when he did go up in weight fought some tough competition not just anyone.
