Margarito beat the higher ranked WW in Cotto. He also has more big wins @ 147 then Williams. Yes, Williams DID beat Margarito, but he ALSO lost to a lower ranked fighter in Quintana. Those are to be taken into consideration if one wants to be fair and unbiased.

I don't care who is ranked higher at this point. You have one guy who beat more top 10 contenders, and the other who beat the guy who beat those top contenders. There is no clear number 1 yet. For those that argue AM, he lost to Williams. For those who favor Williams, he won and lost to Quintana and beat AM. I don't have a clear number 1 until the rematch.

Sorry, but this is flawed logic and I'll tell you why. This does not come down to who beat who. This is about rankings as you said. Rankings change as fighters win and lose. AM and Williams did not fall far if they fell at all. Correct me if I'm wrong. Quick synapses: Cotto beats Shane...Cotto beats Q...AM beats Clottey(suspect, anyway;) ) Williams beats AM...Q beats Williams, AM beats Cintron...Williams beats Q in rematch, AM beats Cotto. What ever the order, why would you have a problem with people having Williams ranked over AM?

But yes, rankings have EVERYTHING to do with who you beat! And most importantly where they rank WHEN you beat them.

So, Margarito has beaten the legit #1 in Cotto, Clottey (#5 - as suspect as Margo's loss to Santos ;)) and Cintron twice (#10).

Paul has wins over Margo (I don't recall their ranking at that point, but both were not #1 or #2) and Quintana (#19).

Therefore, Margo has 4 quality wins, and Paul 2.

On a head-to head basis sure Williams has the edge, but as far as rankings are concerned why would I rank Williams higher? I don't see where my logic is flawed here :huh

And I don't have the slightest problem with people having Williams ranked over Margarito, I just disagree with them, and it seems most ppl here do.

    Doubter doubter doubter!

I too would like to see that fight very much.

That is all that I needed to know(people having PW ranked over AM). I don't know how the up and down changing of the rankings were going at the time guys were winning and losing. I'm sitting here posting with you, and trying to find out which parts of the Lobster are edible lol...Washing my hands, and posting with everyone.
