Who is a better ATG vitali or wlad?

oh please...you're talking about a guy who never faced a southpaw in his career...he even relinquished his IBF title to avoid Chris Byrd!!

 

How is this even a question? Maybe Vitali makes a better H2H guy (probably does) but who actually was fit enough to stay in the game and achieve more? Wladimir. No offense to Vitali but his body did not allow him to accomplish what Wlad has because of the injuries. I think you have to rate Wlad higher based on accomplishment. Both have been designated linear champ now since the real title was on the line VS Chagaev (Yes, I consider the Ring to be the real title, to a satisfactory enough degree).

But Wlad is something like 14-2 in title fights. Say what you want about the competition but the consistent level of the game he's fighting at is something. And, as rough as the losses are...I have to respect that he's come back a better fighter all three times. Vitali has given his legacy a real boost since he came back but it's not enough to beat little brother. Wladimir has a longer shelf life too, I bet. He's had no sign of stopping and he's already had far more fights than Vitali. One more loss but far more wins.

Lewis was WBC champ at 28 with only 22 fights...Wlad IBF champ at 29 with 35 fight.
Wlad was knocked by Lamon in 2004 and almost by TOS and Peter and fought guy like Rahman and Austin after that...

Head to Head, Vitali is the better choice in my opinion... I think Wlad, based on resume and accomplishment has the greater legacy.

 

Okay, so you never really saw any of those fights or you'd know Wlad was never in serious trouble against TOS or Peter.

 

:good European Champion in 1999 and Wlad won olympic gold in 1996 in the Superheavyweight division.

He is the much better of the two (including Head to Head.)

 

WALDO based on his resume compared with that of VITLAY.

Legacy? Based on legacy?? Seriously legacy? Legacy....

WALDO's legacy will be judged when he has left the sport. He has a good resume (which is probably what this arguement should be based on) and there is no telling how the sorty will end. Personally I think he stays on top for another year or so and eventually calls it a day. His legacy as you call it can then be defined.

 

Neither is an ATG.

Apart from Lewis/Vitali neither Klitschko has fought (nevermind beaten) an ATG. The mixture of names on their CVs represent a very poor era in heavyweight boxing with opponents that wouldnt have even been ranked top ten when the likes of Lewis, Tyson, Holyfield and Bowe were squaring off.

Of course thats not the brothers fault but never the less, they never fought really good competition and that will ultimately hurt their standing in boxing history and prevent them from being viewed by all as ATGs.

Dont kid yourself thinking people like Sam Peter or Chageav are fantastic champions. Theyre not. Dig out some old vids from the 60s, 70s, 80s and 90s as a reminder of what's good.

As for head to head theories. Who ****ing cares. Nobody will ever know what might have happened and so lets not applaud anybody for what they might have done.

The Klitschkos are very good fighters but they have never beaten anyone decent (maybe Byrd was ok), never unified the belts and never fought the other best fighter out there. Is that the mark of an ATG? No.

I feel sorry for them both. You have to prove your greatness. Neither have had much of a chance to measure up to the greats of the past and that's their cross to bear. Vitali tried but failed.

...and dont start knocking Lewis or Haye. Lewis was twice as good as either Klitschko and Haye had a ****ing back injury and then got offered a better deal. Simple as that. And if you think a Haye/Klitschko fight won't happen soon, youre mental.

 

Wlad was also WBO champ before that. Besides that... Vitali didn't hold that WBC strap for very long as he was knocked out by McCall, and then went without a title for 3 more years. On top of that... Lewis was never really considered "The Champ" until he beat Holyfield. Even after he beat Holyfield his title reign was very weak, let's be honest.

Let's not forget that Lewis was "given" his WBC belt the first time, and the second time he fought for the Vacant WBC title against Oliver McCall (who lost his title after beating Lewis) who was fresh out of rehab and not even stable enough to finish the fight. So... let's stop acting like his "WBC" Title meant so much more than Wlad's IBF title, when Wlad happened to brutally knock out the longest standing Champion in the division, as well as the Ring Magazine #1 ranked Heavyweight in the world for that IBF title.

Also... what does it matter how many fights that they had up to that point? Wlad gets penalized for being a more active fighter or something? Wlad had 24 fights in his first 2 years as a pro.
