Gotta disagree with you there. On the merits of Lopez alone, Nacho belongs on this list. Throw in the Marquez brothers and he's definitely contending for the top spot.

Last 3-4 years maybe, but that doesn't change the fact that he's trained MANY all time greats.

These days he is just sort of a 'big name' trainer in that he doesn't really develop people from a young age, he just comes in for a couple of fights and tries to help them.

Look back to the many boxers who spent a long time in the Detroit area as amateurs and professionals. Maybe he's lost his touch, but his resume is still just ****ing amazing.

    Thomas Hearns
    Gerald McLellan
    Steve and Milton McCrory
    Mike McCallum
    James Toney
    Evander Holyfield
    Wladimir Klitschko
Hilmer Kenty (his first I think)

Also he was the one who pretty much turned Lennox Lewis from an unskilled slugger (who didn't even like to slug!) into a great boxer-puncher who is now regarded as one of the greatest heavyweight champions.

Or Aaron Pryor for example... he worked with Pryor for a while when he was young.

Also he helped coach the US 1984 Olympic team if I recall correctly.

People seem to love saying that he never teaches his fighters defense... well thats because stylistically he teaches them to think more about offense. Steward may give us disappointments sometimes, but he also has given us so many many exciting fighters, with exciting fights, and great careers. There are sad stories like that of Gerald McLellan, and prospects who have some serious problems early in their careers like Andy Lee and now again Kermit Cintron... but I think overall he's still a great great trainer.

Great post, you also forgot to put in Moorer and Mccall, who in Mccall he trained for the fight against Lewis the first time, it's pretty amazing when you think about it, at the time Mccall was a journeymen with a solid chin at the time, while Lewis was looked at the 2nd best belt holder at the time, yet, Manny trained McCall to look for that one big punch to take Lewis out, and it worked.

Its not that I forgot, its just that if you actually just post every fighter who Steward has ever worked with, it just looks ridiculously unbellievable! :p

True, you could throw Vitali's name in there as well, I'm just surprosed so many posters are knocking him, the guy has one of the best record when it comes to training a fighter in championship fights, I personally feel he's currently the best trainer out there today.:good

They train different types of ways ... Steward is more of a trainer on counter punching, Mayweather is a trainer of defense, Roach ... adds on to a fighters skills.
