That's not entirely true.

CANELA is the term for cinnamon, "canelo" is the cinnamon tree, but actually is a term almost exclusively for horses (it means cinnamon-colored as well).

99.9999999999% of the "canelo" searches are for the boxer, that's how we call it in Mexico, aside from the boxer there's no many contexts where a Spanish speaker would need "canelo".

I live in Mexico, I speak Spanish, I know my stuff in this regard.

they aren't active fighters. no, they aren't. they still together don't approach the name recognition of the top guys from the nineties and before. whether you like it or not, boxing is almost dead here.

 

Why ? it's not a joke ... Joshua is way way way more popular than Canelo. Everyone talks about him. All of my friends that don't watch boxing recognise his name... Canelo... well you have to watch boxing to know him at least in Europe. Outisde of America he is basicly no one.

Joshua is coming off 1.5 million PPV buys in a 90, 000 sell out stadium. A fight that was shown by two broadcasters in america, both of which doing huge numbers. Canelo hasn't been in a fight that size in years and even then it was Floyd pulling in the big numbers.

I don't like AJ by the way, I don't like him at all. But I don't think Canelo is half the star that golden boy think he is. He just doesn't do the big numbers.

I wouldn't put Canelo v Jr anywhere near the magnitude of AJ v Wlad.

The Canelo vs Chavez gate receipts almost certainly were significantly more than the Klitschko vs Joshua gate receipts. Same thing for PPV receipts by an order of magnitude. And Canelo vs Chavez was broadcast live throughout Latin America and in other markets such as the UK and the Philippines. Also Canelo was the clear A-side for his fight while Klitschko/Joshua is more 50/50.

I think Joshua is growing as a star and Canelo has probably peaked but Canelo for now is the much bigger star. That's what the numbers indicate.
