Among the fighters criticized for being overrated, who is underrated due to excessive slander?
A boxer whose excessive criticism literally obscures their outstanding abilities.

Gervonta Davis is the perfect example for this question

Very overrated by casuals, which ironically led to hardcore fans overly criticising him and now underrating him

Yeah his resume could be a lot better but it's undeniable he's one of the most skilled boxers in the sport today - to have one-punch KO power at 130-135 lbs is very rare, and he has ring IQ that is underrated (by hardcore fans)

So many people had Devin Haney on their P4P lists and he had lots of praise after Loma and Prograis, and look how he got obliterated by Ryan, compared to how easily Tank handled Ryan.

Nah AJ is fairly rated. He's towards the bottom half of the Ring's top 10 HW list which is fair. Opinions on him are more polarised but if you level them out, it's roughly what he deserves - decent champion during his time with some decent wins, but wasn't anywhere near as good as his fanboys made him out to be

Uhhhhh, gonna go with Tyson as my top pick. In a way. I think historically, he's rated fine, but it's become cool to think he was just not as good as he was when he was at his peak and it must have just been opponents uniformly succumbing to his will, as if by magic coward spell and people hyping him up to unrealistic heights as a direct result. The truth is, he actually was as unique and incredible a talent, trained product and body as he seemed to be. Essentially nothing much like Tyson has ever existed. No, he was never not beatable (peak Ali got worked at multiple points, ffs) but what he did has gone from he's one of the four horseman to he's an also-ran in the grand scheme of things. It's actually bonkers but probably backlash for the conqueror getting conquered in such epic fashion that butts were truly hurt. Prison hurt.

Deontay Wilder was overrated by casuals and underrated by boxing fans.

Amir Khan has become underrated due to being super hyped and having some bad losses (I think the Peterson BS kind of ruined him) - but a prime Amir Khan was a handful for anyone - also he was a warrior, he took the tough fights and fought hard.

I think a lot of people underrate Floyd because of all of the hype surrounding him.

Larry Holmes and Sonny Liston are the answers to this. They both went from wrongly being considered mere footnotes in HW Boxing, to being considered way superior to what should in actuality be their peers by some people.

I think that's going from underrated to overrated, not the other way around.
