Who is a boxer that became underrated because of being overrated?

    The thing that gets me most with Tyson is how most casuals have this perception that he was just a big puncher…like…did they miss the parts where his opponents miss a bunch of punches before getting their clocks cleaned….

    Mike Tyson was an excellent fighter across the board, and much of the effective punching came as a result of his skill (although obviously he was very gifted)

    The obvious answer is Tyson, a legit ATG HW. He really is one of the greatest and best ever but he's also not IMO a top 10 HW, although by anyone who is only casual, he's always thrown around as the greatest HW ever (for a time). Then the opposite happens with boxing "pundits", he gets underrated constantly and he loses an abundance of hypothetical matchups with other historical greats

    So yeah, he's both overrated and underrated at the same time.
