I am one of Tommy's greatest fans. And people here know it, but in some comment he has said he had no legs and he knew he had to take it to Marvin and get him out of there. He tried and he rocked and hurt him, but Marvin stood up and Tommy broke his hand being a little wild. Both were wild, but Tommy punched harder than Marvin and the force on his hand was more than Marvin's on his hands. I always found it interesting how after the fight Marvin's right side of his face was swollen a bit,,, and yet Tommy hit him with the left. So had the fight gone longer, maybe swelling would have been an issue for Marvin.
I think you were overly harsh on Mikey. I also agree with you about everyone, the Garcias, PBC and Spence, etc., selling a bill of goods that they shouldn’t have. I also agree with your point about the potential rivalries. I see a few reasons why the fights don’t get made. Networks and promoters prioritize the “0.” So much so that it negatively affects the fighters’ bottom line. Fighters in this environment understand that a loss puts them to the back of the line. As a result, they spend a lot of time jockeying for A-side supremacy at the negotiating table. As we all know, boxing is a slimy business. I have wished that someone with deep pockets, e.g., Bezos, Gates, Musk would take over the entire sport. They could establish the rules. Of course this will never happen, since they’d have to have a hand in everything from 4 round, prelim fighters, all the way up to PPV stars.
Oh he wanted it more than Marvin did. He knew he wanted to box and get the pace slower and set up that right hand and land it more from the side and not straight on. He knew he could hurt him and Marvin didn't want it again, although Marvin won so what was his motivation? That is like asking Hearns to fight Duran again, what would be Hearns motivation, although he would have fought him again and maybe Duran could have improved on it. I don't think so. He could have gone into the later rounds in the late 1980s, but Tommy would have probably won by TKO stoppage then. As for the massage excuse. I just don't like excuses, even from my favorite fighter. The leg excuse should not have been used, or the right hand broken. He and Marvin came out wild and it was the best first round in history, but Marvin won fair and square. Tommy's key in a rematch was come out and hold Marvin and get the pace slower and use the jab and that hook off the jab when Marvin switched and when Marvin switched throw the right to the side.
I wasn't. Team Mikey is on the grift. Boxing is no more slimy than it's ever been. Perhaps less so. It's the boxers and their teams. They don't want to fight as hard as their predecessors. They want to be thought of and treated as if they are great, but they don't want go through what their predecessors went through to earn it. That's why Mikey and the rest will never be as great as they could be. Will never measure up to the ATGs. They don't want it bad enough. They'll get paid without having to leave it all in the ring and they believe they are entitled to that. As far as one of the monopolist robber barons taking over the sport, **** that. They have too much say in our lives as it is.
He’s racist, pro EDL and Tommy Robinson supporter, he’s anti mask and anti covid, he’s a hypocrite. He calls people sheep on twitter if they take Covid seriously, he’s urging everyone to not get the vaccine saying propaganda stuff like it’ll make you infertile. He knows more than doctors now. He comes off as a d**k as well from just the way he acts, gives off those vibes. Also I heard stories from people who were there that when his fanbase from the crowd started racially abusing Ohara Davies at the weigh in he smirked and was happy to see Ohara get racially abused.
