I saw a thread here where they were to rank fighters, and Roy and Michael were on the list. So putting only them on here, who would be ranked higher.

    Jones Jr imo.

    Fighter of the decade.

Best MW in the world. Best SMW in the world. Best LHW in the world. Top 5 HW.

Beat Hopkins who is a top 10 all time MW, at MW.

Beat Toney who is a top 10 all time SMW, at SMW.

Beat every LHW of note barring DM, but he did dominate the man who dethroned DM.

That being said I think Spinks would starch him.

    Roy's greater IMO.

Spinks would win H2H at 175.

At lt-heavy Spinks is one of the chosen few. Rids the ring of Jones in 4. 1 punch.

Spinks, in terms of matchup, Roy bears him at Light Heavyweight, but Spinks beats him at heavyweight

Spinks ruled 175 in one of the toughest era ever at lightheavyweight. He also beat Larry Holmes at Heavy while Roy beat John Ruiz. I am biased towards Spinks because he was my childhood idol and grew up a few miles from where I did but I truly think he would have beat Roy if they would have fought in their primes.

Of course Roy also won titles at 160 and 168 and was a phenomenal talent. I won't begrudge anyone that prefers Jones but Spinks is my man h2h.

The problem is see Roy having with Spinks is Spinks would be by far greater than anyone Roy fought and that right hand at light heavyweight could be devastating for Roy. It would be an interesting fight. He fought Toney and Hopkins, two greats but in my mind not really in the Spinks category of great. And Roy fought a young Bernard and an old Bernard. And Bernard is great, but his record is a little constructed with smart handpicking. Jermaine Taylor in his career was interesting. That era of Spinks where he beat Qawi, Eddie Mustafa, Marvin Johnson. Solid guys not really like Jones, but Spinks had some speed himself and power.

    This is excellent!

Learned a lot from this and it was a fair critical assessment of Roy Jones best wins and his best opponents.

    Thanks!

I don’t agree that Spinks ruled one of the greatest Lt. Heavy eras. That era came right before his time. People don’t seem to make that distinction. He came into his own when most of those guys were dying off and he managed to pad his resume with a couple of its bigger names that were already damaged goods.

His best wins were his masterclass against Qawi and his come from behind effort against a weight drained Gregory that looked like he would’ve won if at his best.

I’d still pick him to KO Jones more often than not, though. Over 15. It would be a harder call in the 12 round era.

Jones rates comfortably higher pound for pound.
