Interesting takes on Top Rank and GBP. GBP seems to be plagued with bad losses for their fighters lately and given how much exposure they give their fighters, if they don't deliver the fall the fighters take is that much worse and it's harder to downplay the defeat and build them up again. They seem to be more concerned on the short term and on instant gratification rather on the long term. But if it pays off, their plans have the potential to make big stars real fast. Top Rank on the other hand, really takes their time in developing fighters. In a way, it's good for the fighters because the step up in competition is gradual and the fighters aren't likely to find themselves in over their heads. On the other hand, sometimes it's to the dismay of fans because it keeps what they think are good fights from happening, giving the impression that the fighters are "protected". But Top Rank seems takes in stride with the patience of a wily veteran and somehow manages to end up with the biggest names. At least that's what I'm getting from the comments here.
Al Haymon started off in the music business, I think he used to manage R.Kelly, and might be related to the late singer Aaliyah.
yes... He has evey top R&B Tour... Beyonce, Mary J., Weezy, even Al Green, Isaac Hayes, and the older acts. He also bought part of the Brittney Speas deal, and I think some Broadway shows.
Hayman's "in" with HBO appears to be through Kerry Davis, the HBO exec in their boxing dept. Davis,a an African American, took over Lou DiBella's position when Lou left HBO. HBO hasn't quite been the same since Davis took over.:deal
Rooney you should not be on here calling Haymon a drug dealing criminal without any proof or knowledge of any CRIMINAL ACTIVITIES. or do you, you dont' want to take another beating like from James Prince do you?
schaefer boy is not the most influential person in boxing. It's still Bob Arum, by a country mile. Problem is the old codger is pushing 80,
Not so much dude And if the Floyd/Mosley fight happens Arum is gonna have to bend over the negotiating table if he ever wants to fight either of them. Margo/Cotto/Pavlik are all serious question marks right now, so that leaves Pac for Arum to milk. GBP has more power
There's definitely something to be said about promoters overprotecting their fighters, but seeing nothing wrong with rushing prospects? The former doesn't actually jeopardize a fighter's career, while the latter would impact an inexperienced but popular fighter rather adversely, most likely ending a promising career abruptly. As I've said before, Arum is not beyond the ills that promoters like him have foisted on boxing since time immemorial. Nobody's claiming otherwise, at least to my knowledge.
for mayweather it is, but haymon would make more money out of a fight between williams and floyd as he manages both.
