He's a Mexican welterweight, WBO and IBF title holder with a couple of devastating wins over fellow title holder Kermit Cintron, a close loss to a top 5 welter in Paul Williams and wins over many good/excellent contenders. He's also a 15 year professional fighter.

No wonder you discredit Margo. But u became a fan after he beat the "ultimate nobody" Golden Johnson :huh . Golden got served in 5 rounds by Mosley way before Margo got his fists on him.

I've been seeing Margo whoop ass for a good while now. I'm a realist too, Margo is a tough fighter who is relentless with pressure. You saw he broke the compubox record in the Clottey fight for most punches thrown in a fight (could of been a round). That there is amazing, a welter able to throw more punches than the top flyweights (or any lower weight)!

He is the guy with a granite chin.
He is the fighter that overwhelms opponents with serious pressure.
He is the fighter that can dish out punishment inside and out.

    This is reality

haha its not the fact that he beat golden johnson
its HOW he beat golden johnson..

he was coming off a tough loss against an upcoming contendor... and could have easily let that loss discourage him and he could have slowly faded away... but margarito used that loss ignite him and it put him pretty much on a warpath to the top and that says a lot about a man....

now Im completely aware of what margarito offers as a fighter...

this thread is what margarito offers as a potential matchup.

    if your a top p4p'er or even a p4p #1

why would you want to take on a fighter that although may not be the most skilled fighter in the world... will be a difficult challenge for anyone..

he doesnt have any major victories on his resume..
he didnt carry any important belts for a long period of time..

hes known for nothing really.. and brings nothing to the table

in terms of risk & reward.. and in terms of legacy.
if floyd faught margarito ( & won) @ the time when he was originally offered the fight.. margarito would have not fought clottey williams or cintron for a 2nd times which are all his biggest fights... so looking back on floyds record...
he would have beat on a guy who had no belts, no significant victories, and 4 losses @ that point in time....

so really people will look @ that fight and just be like... why..
matter of fact they wont even really consider the fight because
    1-marg had no belts
2-didnt beat anyone recognizeable... which is one of the biggest measure of opponent difficulty
    3-he lost 4 times already

hopefullly you get the point im trying to put across

Void refused to fight Margarito for big money, so I guess he knows who Margarito is.

    your missing the point...

floyd doesnt set up a potential matchup with oscar de la hoya by fighting margarito's and paul williams...

he gets it by increasing name as a product

product meaning visability by the general public ...

when oscar took the fight with floyd he was the most visable fighter in the sport of boxing aside from oscar himself...

thats because floyd racked up allllllll those belts... not by beating unrecognized BUT TOUGH opponents

Everyone is missing the point, but the point is a stupid one.

Obviously people don't gain a huge amount out of beating Margo outside of boxing circles, however it is an attitude like this that is basically ruining boxing. As it openly encourages handpicking a record.

I do see you're point, it's the whole High risk Low reward. That's the business aspect of the sport. that's why the sport is on a decline because of that. With all these belts, promoters, and catch weights. fighters can cherry pick avoiding real threats. In the past there was the basic weight classes and the Champ fought all the top contenders, period.

But hey they gotta eat and keep their teeth in their mouths right.
i understand the point, but to dismiss Margo as a nobody is nuts. He's a hell of a fighter that has proven that even in defeat he'll come right back giving it a harder. Giving a great performance without giving up is what he offers to the boxing public

yeah ... i mean it sucks while fighters are in the middle of their career... but @ the end its all worth it because we get to see megafights like oscar & floyd (even though it let down) and floyd & hatton...

and circumstances like this dont come around very often.. maybe twice every 10 years... event fighters dont come around very often...
    2000's
    floyd & oscar
    1990's
    roy-tyson-oscar later

i cant speak as much on the 80's & 70's but you see my point

and im not saying margarito in the general scheme of things is a nothing because he definitely isnt... he is a tremendous talent

but when wanting to build your legacy.. or build your name to potentially make a mega fight... hes a nobody and a waste of time

haha i couldnt think of any other way of getting the point accross..
