A bit less in this particular case, 'may in fact help keep the sport alive'.

sally, i think you will find that great champions in any sport including boxing have benefited from extra motivation when the odds were stacked against them... the fact that a little extra motivation was needed to get them across the line does not mean they should not be boxing in the first place

    Good point..

Those top class athletes require extra motivation to sustain interest in what they do.. Angelo Dundee is a perfect example of a master tacticion.. not by inspriring the likes of Ali, but in the way of keeping the talented star interested and involved in bettering himself. Ali's self belief and strong poltical views caused terribled disturbances throughout his mid-career. Dundee encouraged Ali to utilise the time to grow, wisen up, reflect and understand his limitations away from the gym. Upon any return, Ali had a spring in himself... Never forcefully..

Mike Tyson needed that same offering post D'Amato's death. He never recieved it.

IMO, that's the difference between motivation and manipulation. You can motivate a person to reach higher goals.. You CAN NOT manipulate a person into the same.

What do you guys think about Chris McCullen as a trainer, the cards i've seen on fox sports he seems to do a good job with a minimum of fuss between rounds.

I have liked what i have seen of McCullen in the corner.
Very relaxed & gives good instructions & doesnt overload the boxer with info.:good

Very nice bloke to sit down & have a chat about boxing too.
His commentating is also pretty good too...always fairly neutral & no massive nuthugging.

Not to sure about the best but Noel Thornberry seems to be doing a good job with Alex..."Noel Thornberry was a teenager scrapping inthe street when a Gatton publican told him to puthis punchesto good use"

By looking away when Tyson tried it on with a younger relative of Atlas', which saw Teddy pull a gun on Mike?

Cus turned a blind eye to a lot of things, wasn't quite the saint hes made out to be.

d'mato was tysons father figure and moral compass. dont try and change history with a report that you have no evidence of.

Its quite a well documented story. Numerous Tyson biographies make mention of some of Tysons wild days in the Catskills and Cus' willingness to turn a blind eye.

Pumpkin, Darl, Hun if you ever bump into me I'm neither one. As you can see my spacebar button needs to pushed hard in order for it to work appropiately.
