Who is better? Hector Camacho or Miguel Cotto?

Macho was faster, but Cotto has the edge in power and balls.

 

Camacho was well past his prime when he fought Haugen.

And taking hard shots from Zab Judah, and taking hard shots from Edwin Rosario are like two VERY different things.

 

And Camacho had the edge in chin, defense, stamina, skills, and ring IQ.

Power and balls are the ONLY two things Cotto had over Hector.

 

I'd agree with that.

 

But the main point is, Cotto reacts differently from Camacho. Camacho ran when in trouble and Cotto kept his composure and kept fighting.

That said, in a H2H battle, Camacho would be the favorite to win no doubt.

 

The thing is though, that Cotto will eventually start going backward if you break him down. We've seen that a few times now.

 

It's not really fair to discuss an actual head-to-head matchup. Camacho was at his best at 130-135. Whereas Cotto very good at 140, and peaked at 147.

The question to the thread is who was the better fighter. P4P and prime for prime, the answer is Hector and I can't see any argument for Cotto being better.

 

Yes but never to the point where he will start holding on for dear life like Camacho did.

Once Cotto starts going backward, it's all over. The fight is out of him. We saw that against Margarito, Pacquiao, and Trout.

 

For raw talent and overall ability I have to say the Macho Man (P4P) would be the superior fighter.

Exactly, people can call it coward style but Hector fought smartly against bullcharge Rosario, Mancini and Paz.

The fact he managed to turned things around in round 7-9 against Rosario proof that he's very versatile even during the fight itself. Camacho was also floored in first round against Reyes Cruz but recovered quickly and won UD.

Seriously, apart from Chavez who really dominates Camacho in his prime? He was robbed against Greg Haugen, even with point deducted, he floored Haugen in 4th, he should have win the split or draw at the worst. I'm surprise the result did not turn into no contest despite Haugen tested positive for drugs.

Apart from that he only lost to De la hoya and Trinidad and they were 5'11 and 6' and has 11 years adventage.

 

Hector clearly was a level above ability wise when at his best, but you could make arguments both ways career wise.

I'll give the edge to Camacho for having the better top end wins and because Cotto would have been koed savagely by Chavez, Trinidad and DLH.

An 140 version of Rosario might ko Cotto too on a good night.
