Its close, id have to go with Cotto's combinations & speed over Castillo toughness though. P4P I think Cotto beats Castillo but Castillo beats Margo.

It's close but I have to go with Miguel Cotto, who is a more precise/accurate puncher and just better all around fighter.

JLC for me. Castillo was as tough and rugged as it gets in there and had underrated offensive skill. He also took a prime Corrales to war, (probably would have KOed Chico if it weren't for the mouthpiece incident) beat Casamayor, and arguably beat a prime Mayweather. I've yet to see Cotto take on anyone of that caliber. Miguel just looks a little prettier while doing his thing but Castillo was more effective.

    Castillo > Cotto

Castillo ... He didn't show any chin issues ... he was relentless, strong, good aggressor, good tactician ... he cuts off the ring better, and he has better head and shoulder movement.

Cotto is good but not on the same level as Castillo --

in terms of specimin castillo has all the advantages. chin power hieght reach and was a tough ****er to boot.

but in terms of accomplishment and skills it goes to cotto hands down. castillo could never of fought on the back foot for long cotto was outboxing margo pretty solidly and gave mosley a hell of alot of problems.

I would have to go with Castillo.

His body of work is proven; can't say the same about Cotto yet.

If we are comparing current reumes, then Castillo's pisses all over Cotto's I'm afraid.

We should really wait until Cotto retires before comparing the two; I don't feel it is fair on Cotto at the moment.

I have to agree. Castillo on his best day was purely excellent - multi-faceted, textbook - great intangibles. Cotto is also a talent, but it is far more the product of physical brawn and a clever method of hitting people in the body as hard as he can over and over again. Cotto's boxing ability and flashier aspects get alot of play, but that isn't what has gotten him to where he is or bailed him out of the rough patches.

Cotto also has questionable stamina, defense, punch resistance, ring intelligence, and heart - according to his worst critics. I'd say his punch resistance, defense, ring intelligence, and stamina are key issues. I think he has plenty heart, but makes the mistake of retreating too much - but it's hard to blame him because of his punch resistance issues and inability to protect himself at times.

Cotto has the clear edge in punching power.

I do think that Castillo chin gets quite overrated and it's not like he fought a smart fight against Corrales, but he was a great fighter in my view and one of my favorites.

I agree, I think Castillo does it get overrated in those areas. His ring intelligence was highly questionable at times. Good reminder. ^
