Since the Cubans are starting to really shine in the pros as of lately mainly due to the recent Cuban defectors, without a doubt Cuba's best prospects P4P are Yuriorkis Gamboa and Guillermo Rigondeaux...

Let's take a look at their great Amateur accomplishements first...

Yuriorkis Gamboa was a phenomenal amateur with deep credentials. After zooming to the top of his class in the ultra-competitive Cuban Amateur system, Gamboa proceeded to win 4 national championships, as well as Gold medals in the Pan Am Games and the World Amateur Boxing Championships. His crowning achievement was winning Olympic gold at the 2004 Olympics in Athens, and was the heavy favourite to repeat Gold at the 2008 Beijing Olympics if he had'nt defected...

Guillermo Rigondeaux had around 400 fights before defecting from Cuba. He won Olympic gold in 2000 and 2004, won two World amateur championships and a Pan American Games Gold medal, among a slew of other amateur accolades. He simply " dominated " the bantamweights for almost a decade and had only " 1 " internationl loss ( which he later avenged easily ) and was considered the best " amateur boxer in the World for many many years "...

    Now in the pros... :bbb

Yuriorkis has developed exceptionally well for the pro game. Has possibly the fastest hands in all of boxing with an incredible arsenal of strenght and power. Hi throws combos from all angles and throws bunches in bunches with devastating speed and incredible accuracy, his footwork and ring movements are also A+. All in all, Yuriorkis is a phenom and is in a class in itself, he is simply in another galaxy...

Guillermo on the other hand, is developing a more " calmed style " in the pros but his incredible talent has also being in display since his debut. He is a southpaw with deadly punching accuracy, speed ( but a little slower than Gamboa IMO ) has very good punching power in both hands, has tremendous ring movements and his defence is better than Gamboa. He has become a devastating " one shot body puncher " as he has 3 one shot KO's to the body in only 5 fights...All in all, Guillermo is also in a league of his own...

The conclusion, it's inevitable that Gamboa and Rigondeaux will someday meet, whether it's in 126lbs or 130lbs. It seems that Rigondeaux will fight only at 122lbs since there is where he feels most comfortable and Gamboa is very confortable now at 126lbs...So it's quite possible that this mega fight will never ever happen, I for one don't want to see Cuba's best boxers going at it!!! :nono

If this fight ever happens in the near future, which Cuban do you favor to win the Yuriorkis Gamboa-Guillermo Rigondeaux shodown? and why?

Which Cuban is better or will be better P4P?

    Please vote!!! :good

IMO Rigondeaux would beat Gamboa but they will both be P4P-ers one day.

**** lol. Im sure them lot well meet in catchweights. theres a big bunch of em rediculously talented. Rigo Gamboa Lopez Marquez Vasquez Cabellero. Even chris John was piping up the other day saying hell meet em in a catchweight. Personally i prefer Gamboa but from what ive heard Rigo will come out on top.

Right now Gamboa would win because he has developed so much already, but Rigo can close the gap in the next year and a half.

Rigondeaux is better than Lara, who I incorrectly pinned as the best of the two upon first viewing. I really think he has a lot of pro potential. His range control is his most impressive attributes to me, and he seems very poised in the ring. A better ring general than Lara, whose in-fighting deficiencies could be exposed in the future should he continue to fight in the same manner and/or not correct them. He just seems to go into a shell too often on the inside, which is all good for the time being, as his high and tight guard usually keep him out of danger against the caliber of opponent he's faced thus far. Could be trouble down the road, though.

Then again, we've yet to see Rigondeaux against a decent caliber of opponent, yet. We'll see how he fares in comparison when he ups the notch a peg or two.

Gamboa is the most impressive to watch, but his flaws are also more glaring. That said, the positives definitely outweigh the negatives for the moment. He's a whirl-whind offensively, but he still needs to learn to settle down a bit more, otherwise his lack of awareness is going to see him hurt often against a strong puncher. He just needs to sharpen his focus.

Difficult to say because Rigo has much less pro experience.

    Gamboa's 28, Rigo's 29.

Gamboa, JuanMa, John, Marquez and Vazquez are in the same division but the only likely match is Gamboa/JuanMa.

Cheers mate. why the **** is this the case. Same old problem of shifty promoters and nothing fights. This division rivals the welterweights for talent and all this will go to waste. Is it simply down to promoters protecting their fighters? i knw John wants the challenge

For now, I'll take Gamboa. Rigo needs a few more pro fights for me to really gauge him.
