They're both as yet untested at the highest level in the pros. But Rigo much less tested. It's really too tough to say.

That may be true as Rigondeaux was a masterful technician before in Cuba and even today and Gamboa was much more wilder in the amateurs. But today, Gamboa has progressed immensly as now he is way more calmed and intelligent. I say that a fight between them now is up in the air as anything can happen but I slightly favor Gamboa just by comparing his professional style to Rigo's present style. Now, if Rigo starts showing us some more crazy performances and leaving us with the WOW effect like Gamboa has been doing then possibly I will change my mind. The thing is that Rigo needs to attack more and more often, and against Gamboa he just can't stand in there in front of him waiting for him to hit him...That will be a catastrophy...

Neither of these guys has fought anybody worth mentioning, yet. So how can we tell at this point?

Well, maybe not in the pros but we can make a pretty fair " comparison " between their great amateur careers!

Yuriorkis is more experienced as a pro and has fought better opposition than Rigondeaux but Rigondeaux was so damm successful as an amateur that he can close that gap easily. Looks as of right now the voting is pretty even for both Cubans! Too close for comfort... :hey

I answer it by saying "Rigo", due to the fact that I was immediately and thoroughly impressed with his skills in the 2004 olympics, without a second thought. It doesn't matter if he was wearing headgear, I saw what I saw, and that was a future ATG. Gamboa has a few flaws as opposed to Rigondeaux simply having none. I never wanted a specific individual to defect from Cuba so badly. Now that he's gone pro, he's doing exactly what his skills in the olympics indicated he would do.

There's never a shortage of people on ESB who believe that amateur backgrounds mean nothing in the pros. Those individuals would likely call my assessment on Rigondeaux back in 2004 a lucky guess.

Me too brother, I was super impressed the first time that I saw Rigondeaux at age 18 in his first Olympics. Incredible hand speed, power, ring movements and intelligence. He simply was " unstoppable " in the amateurs, but Gamboa was also a " phenom ", maybe not in Rigo's level but indeed very impressive. Gamboa was much " wilder " in the amateurs, and that did'nt make his style captivate many fans but he has developed " immensly " in the pros. He is now more settled, patient and intelligent...

Definitely Rigondeaux is a beast, but I would like for him to open more and attack more often just like he did in his last fight. That's something that the fans love about Yuriorkis, he attacks and does'nt waste anytime to let his hands go. But Rigo is more of a " masterful technician " similar to a young Casamayor but way better...

I am with you, the amateurs are extremely important. I will say that it's about 85% of a fighter's total knowledge in order for him to triumph in the pros. People who put down the amateurs don't know anything, as after all the amateurs are also boxers with great skills and technique, the only thing different is more rounds, no headgear, more crooked and more violent... :good

Rigondeaux has always beaten Gamboa, and always will

yeah Gamboa has become way more physically stronger etc and etc, but Rigondeaux would smack that ass... all these cubans that are in the pros now know who the big daddy of them all is. They respect his skills more than anybodys

rigo is to technical for him. gambo has been knocked down before, rigo will make him miss and make him pay. his body punching is great. i think he can knock him out.
