Yes, way better, and that is saying a hell of a lot, because Casamayor was a great fighter. Rigo doesn't impress the fans anywhere near what Gamboa does. Rigo's style is not one that can be appreciated by the lamen's eye. You have to be a true fan of the sweet science, rather than brawiling, to know what you're seeing when Rigo's in there. His style is that of a master technician as you said. Some of the fighters I like a lot right now are guys like Andre Ward, Edwin Valero, Fernando Montiel, Wladimir Klitschko....all master technicians. Rigo's skills match all those guys. I see those kinds of fighting styles as an art, and nowhere near boring.

comon fanny you say all that **** about "You have to be a true fan of the sweet science to know what you're seeing when Rigo's in there" but just look up at the poll and you'll see that Rigo has more votes overall than Gamboa and he's only had 5 fights. his ability is pretty obvious.

well all boxers learn boxing in the amateurs that's where they start before going pro.. is their first stpes in boxing.. some make it far in amateurs some dont.. in that case a lot of their knowledge comes from amateur but their amateur career or how good they do in the amateurs has nothing to do with how good they're going to be in the pros.. absolutley nothing.. some do bad in the amateurs and go to have great pro careers.. some dont even have an amateur background and become great champions in the pros

Super Mario was the best amateur and cuban boxer in the world during their time. Probably the best lightweight (ams or pros) I have seen in the last 15 years.

    Rigo > Gamboa though!

The amateurs give the solid foundation, technique, footwork and overall ring intelligence and knowledge. If a young man is a good solid amateur and highly successful and he continues with the same dedication and will into the pros, then he should also be a great pro or at least a pretty good one, no doubt about that. Now, a fighter that was not good in the amateurs most likely will not be good in the pros, unless he spents years in the gym developing his technique and skills first. The bad amateurs that have been successful in the pros are just very few...

You are talking about Mario Kindelan right?

Damm, he was one of the best Cuban amateurs of all times along with Rigondeaux. If he had defected, no doubt he would had been an " all time great "... :-(

The guy had " wicked skills " !!!

Hard to tell since Rigondeaux hasn't fought anyone yet. When Gamboa started his career, he was matched way harder.

True 100%, but I wonder why? Rigo is more accomplished as an amateur than Gamboa and yet they have'nt matched him so tough like Yuriorkis! :huh

pacquiao didnt fight in the amateurs, nene sanchez didnt fight in the amateurs, wilfredo vazquez who is fighting for a featherweight championship next month didnt have one fight in the amateurs.. you dont need an amateur career to make it in the pros

Absolutely...Mario Kindelan...had skills that would make most lighter weight fighters blush . I'd love to have seen a Manny Pac Kindelan fight. :bbb

And you are trying to tell me that there are folks who voted Rigo who are NOT true fans of the sweet science? You think casual fans like Rigo? You think everybody who saw Rigo fight in the olympics immediately knew he was a future legend? Because that's really what it is looking like. It looks like either that, or you just like to type to see your own words on the screen...similar to how people talk just to hear themselves talk. That could explain your 26,000 posts. Do you really want to follow me around only to have me make you look like a jackass?
