Who's the better boxer? Not technical boxer but overall.

Basically what i'm saying is if you put both Joe and Pacquiao against a multitude of opponents of similar level, who would fare better? Pacquiao or Calzaghe?

P4P - Manny's level of competition has been better - which would make him better IMO.

If we're talking about their respective abilities, overall, I'd say Joe Calzaghe.

He's better in a H2H sense around his weight class (160-175) than Pacquiao is at 126-135. I wouldn't favor anybody over Calzaghe, whereas I'd take Nate Campbell and Juan Diaz over Pacquiao.

Calzaghe is more versatile and adaptable. He can fight better in a wider variety of styles. He can fight off the backfoot better than Pacquiao, fight a tactical fight with his jab being the primary weapon, and he can swarm/pressure opponents and make it a fight in close. Calzaghe is also superior defensively, even when fighting in an aggressive style.

Pacquiao is a harder puncher and a more relentless fighter.

big fan of both but id say joe. seems like he can fight more than 1 way. pac is only effective moving forward while calzaghe looks like he can flourish in multiple styles. he countered beautifully against kessler and just took the fight to lacy

Pacman. Not much in it though. In a "composite" sense, Pacquiao's power, ability to continually sit down on punches, more correct punching outweigh's Joe Calzaghe's speed.

    For me.

Pacman's last ten fights have been tougher than any other in boxing period.:deal

    P4P he is #1 IMO.

Pacquiao's game has more to do with speed than Joe's does I'd say. Joe is just more well-rounded overall, even though physically he's no longer at his best.

    P4P #2 Calzaghe:
    - He holds the key to #2 spot. If he wins convincingly at his upcoming bout, He stays at #2. If he looses or didn't win that convincingly,Pacquiao could siphon some of his points or get his spot. Depends whatever happens.

    Power/Defense/Aggresiveness/Speed:
    - Pacquiao, Great Quality in just less Quantity. We all know he managed to take out most of his opponents in just early rounds. His previous bout showed it but, seems his really getting "OVER" disciplined and loosing his aggressive style. Though we still can't deny his speed and explosiveness, of course his newly improved defense.

    Skillwise:
    - Calzaghe, what is there to say? As a complete boxer... Move along.

    Explain

By "overall fighter," I take this as versatility. Calzaghe is much more multi-dimensional than Pacquiao.

    We disagree.

If you remove Pac's speed he can steal be a walk you down bash you fighter with mininul adjustments.

Take away Calzaghe's speed, he's retired.

Take away Calzaghe's speed and he'll just outbox you with skill, timing and variety - like prime Hopkins, only a lot better.

Calzaghe's speed is only the tip of the iceberg.

Put Calzaghe in the ring with Manny and he'll stop him easily within a round. This suggests Calzaghe is better.
