As long as people dont say that fraud Naz is the best cos they watch montages of him on Youtube throwing corkscrew uppercuts and spectacularly Ko'ing bums I dont care who gets the nod.

Jmmy Wilde or Ted 'Kid' Lewis but i'd give an honourable mention to Ken Buchanan .. Ken was a great fighter .. I think Nigel Benn was also a fantastic fighter, he was out-thought by Watson and out-gunned by Eubank but he was still a hell of a fighter ..
Naz was a brilliant fighter but there are questions over his opponents and by the time he got to great opponents he was distracted by his own popularity ....

I dont personally rate Calzaghe very highly, and Lennox Lewis is lucky that the era that came after him was far worse (if possible) than the era that he reigned in .. Lennox beat an over the hill Holyfield and Tyson but got sparked by McCall and Rahman, i just cant get that excited about the Lewis career, he was brilliant at using his size advantage (like the Klits) but like the Klits, what kind of 'fighter' was he, really, im not sure ....

I grant you Tyson was shot when he fought Lewis but Holyfield wasn't

Turpin & Lynch, just for adding to the debates sake.

Its a helluva debate, I mean cos boxing has changed so much through the years you could even make a case for Calzaghe being the greatest, although he clearly wasnt.

Who was the best of the best? its an unanswerable question. Im gonna leave it to everyone to fight over.

Put it to a vote though, & corkscrew Naz will probably get the nod:lol:

Gotta get Audley in before anyone else.

But in all seriousness you can pick any from Fitz, Kid Lewis or Wilde with outsiders including Kid Berg, Benny Lynch, Freddie Welsh, Jim Driscoll, Ken Buchanan and Lennox Lewis. Just to narrow it down. I'd probably say Wilde but so little is known about him.

I certainly won't sit on the fence mate as theres no room for 2 of us!! Lennox Lewis is my choice as Britains greatest ever fighter because he is the only Brit ever in boxing history who while fighting in America for over 12 and a half years against the best in the division, dominated his era (you can't do no more) unified belts and never lost a professional fight in the USA.

If you do not include Ruby Robert then it is Wilde by shut out; if Fitzsimmons is in the debate, then Wilde edges the closest of 45 rounders.;)

I don't compare modern day fighters to those before the war, it just gets messy. How the heck do you even comprehend someone having 99 knockouts and well over a hundred fights in these sorts of times, i don't think its fair to either pre or post war fighters. better to split them.

    Wilde
    Kid Lewis
    Freddy Welsh
    Fitzsimmons
    Jim Driscoll

    post war

    Lennox
    Calzaghe
    Buchanan

not bothered about the rest take your pick from the hat
