Definitely wouldn't say Naz is the most respected, most people hated him didn't they?

    Difference between talented/best and respected.

It's Henry Cooper. ESPECIALLY amongst the oldies (40+). He even won BBC Sports Personality of the Year Award

    Nigel Benn is very respected.

I'm not sure what the british perception is of Calzaghe.

Alot of people didnt like Naz although he drew the crowds in and people loved his fighting style. Everyone loved Nigel Benn though pretty much.

Yeah thinking about it it probably is Cooper if you're talking about respect, he was a national treasure.

Joe was never hugely popular as a personality although most boxing fans respected him. He had a bit of an awkward personality did Joe.

long forgotten but for years it was Len Harvey, gentleman all round, then Sir Henry.

Nowadays Conti might still be lingering on and fighters like McGuigan, McGrory, Woodall all in the public eye get credibility.

    but it's probably Bruno still.

who in recent years might replace him, Hatton, I dunno.

I wouldn't say most people hated him but alot didnt like him.He played the pantomine villain like Floyd but in a different way. He was also muslim of course and alot of boxing fans can be a little bit bigoted.

What I'm trying to say is, if you mention Prince Naseem to the average person, they're going to say the same thing.. "Cocky little dickhead", which isn't respect.

Henry Cooper on the other hand is far more respected by everyone. Gentleman, nice bloke etc.

Oh maybe I've understood the thread wrong.

I thought he meant as a person, rather than boxing record etc.
