I was pretty much 50/50 leading up to the fight, with my head telling me Pavlik's workrate might snag him a decision and my gut telling me Hops would just be too smart for a simple fighter like Pavlik.

I changed my prediction to Hopkins after i saw the weighin pics, the guy looked like a god compared to Pavlik, Hopkins being muscled up and Pavlik having no muscle definition at all. Something about it just made me change my mind.

I never thought he was great but I thought he would be good enough to beat a 43 yr old, who didn't look good against a smaller Calslappy, and who only won vs Winky because the weight was too much for Wright. I never thought he would or could beat Calslappy, RJJ, or Dawson.

Weight was'nt the issue. Hopkins put on a complete boxing clinic that weight just did'nt matter in it.

This was'nt Roy Jones vs Trinidad, in which weigh was clearly an issue.
Tito got plenty of good, clean shots in, but just could'nt put a dent of the bigger Jones.

This just was'nt the case in this fight. Pavlik was nullified in every way. He just could'nt let his hands go. They were tied up by Hopkins, thus Pavlik rarely got a good shot in.

Weight had absolutely zero to do with this.

Lets get real here.....what we saw tonight made Hopkins-Trinidad seem competitive!

i will admit i thought pavlik would win. this was however based on the assumption that pavlik would throw some punches.

I do think Pavlik does not gain weight well, because both in this fight and Taylor II he appeared slower to me.

He needs to boil back down to 160 and not come up for air until he has to. Tonight convinced me that he has no future at all at 175 as anything other than a gatekeeper. Too slow.

He did throw punches.....he just had a terrible time gauging distance against a master at the craft of that very same thing, gauing distance.

As I watched the fight, I was reminded of how Hopkins described how he just looked at the way Trinidad repeatedly shuffled his feet the same way everytime......

.....this led me to look at Pavliks footwork as Hopkins was dominating him.
Everytime Hopkins came foward, Pavlik's footwork was the same everytime.....he took a half step back and waited for Hopkins everytime, but Hopkins never came in the same way twice in a row.

For Pavlik, he should have been varying the steps he would take to wait for Hopkins. Take a half step, then a step....two steps ......try angling to the side.....
....but when you're as simple as Pavlik was and how Trinidad had been previously, a master at the craft like Hopkins just salivates.

Its easy work for the master when he knows that his opponent is doing the same thing and the same move, over and over again.

ok. i meant punches that were thrown with some confidence and conviction. he looked clueless and half-hearted from the start.

Well what it does do is prove B-Hop wasn't a shot fighter what some people tried to claim.

You nailed it. Pavlik was clueless.
.....and when Hopkins see's you coming at him with the same look and manuever over and over again, he's just going to make you look silly.

I felt for Pavlik, and I was rooting for him.....but Hopkins was the reason why Pavlik could'nt throw his shots with conviction.

My hats off to Pavlik really......he was getting stung hard by Hopkins, and credit must be given to Pavlik for continueing to keep trying.

.....up to the very end, Pavlik was still working and putting every effort to try and shift the fight in his favor with a big shot.
Hopkins was just so masterful in positioning himself that he was never there for Pavlik to hit.

Pavlik will be back....his time is'nt over, and he'll still be sucessful, but just not against a master skill fighter like Hopkins!

Pavlik was able to deal with Taylor's speed who is faster than Hopkins but he couldnt deal with Bhop, wierd.
